Top Toes provides a personal foot care service for clients who are unable to provide their own personal foot care. This is an essential service for the community. Good foot care can reduce the risk of falls among vulnerable older people, improves mobility and improves quality of life. This project also supports the work of NHS podiatry services, allowing them to focus on quality care for those who really need it. Footcare tasks include: · Set up and maintain sterile treatment room with appropriate equipment · Check and clean plinth · Complete health and well-being checklist with each client · Remove client’s footwear (where requested by client) · Clean toenails with sterile antiseptic wipes · Clean and check the client’s set of clippers for cleanliness and suitability for use (clients will be given their own set of clippers at their first appointment and will bring with them to each subsequent appointment) · Cut toenails · Give foot care and emollient advice If you think that you can contribute to this important service, or would like to know more, then please do get in touch: eleanor.paterson2@nhs.scot. The Volunteer Hairdresser will provide a hairdressing service for Day Services patients in the Macmillan unit who have been assessed as someone who would require and are appropriate for this service by the Multi Disciplinary Team/ Complementary Therapy Co-ordinator . Bases are Arbroath (Tuesday), Whitehills (Wednesday) or Stracathro (Thursday) Core Duties include: • To provide a one-to-one service to patients. • To liaise with nursing staff about referrals. • To complete documentation as required. • Volunteer must be qualified Hairdresser or under supervision of a qualified hairdresser • To wear an ID badge at all times while on duty. • Respecting confidentiality, maintaining the persons dignity and comply with the NHS Tayside Confidentiality Policies. • To comply with NHS Tayside volunteering policies and guidelines. • To be aware of and comply with NHS Tayside policies relevant to the role eg Health & Safety, Infection Prevention Control, Social Media etc. • To feed back any concerns regarding the wellbeing of patients to nursing staff in the first instance. • To attend mandatory training as required. These are the primary core duties of a Volunteer Hairdresser; however certain activities can be changed or amended to suit requirements, under the supervision of the Multi Disciplinary Team.

Our new Live Well project comprises a number of services, each providing an element of support enabling our service users to manage their lives and improve their overall health and wellbeing. As well as Escorted Shopping, Live Well includes our Medication Delivery and Home Support. Those applying for any of the roles within the Live Well program have the option of volunteering across multiple services if they choose to. Our Home Support service offers practical and social support to people affected by HIV and/or Hepatitis C, helping them to take care of their homes and their wellbeing. For many, this enables them to maintain their tenancies and encourages self-care. When illness, mobility or side-effects of medication makes housework too difficult we can offer the support that allows people to feel more comfortable with their environment. You will work with the Service User to achieve goals together which may include assisting them with cleaning and decluttering, making a shopping list, or understanding household bills. Home Support also builds social connections in order to tackle isolation and stigmaWith many Service Users being socially isolated in this way, having a friendly volunteer coming to their home benefits their wellbeing in more ways than one. Working together, as well as chatting over a cuppa, builds a sense of confidence and self-worth, allowing them to have greater independence. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer. Kind, Caring, Compassionate? Our Hospital Support Volunteers are directly involved with visitors to the Kyle Ward Oncology Day Unit (Ailsa Campus, Ayr), offering support in a safe and positive environment, where there is also continuous support from NHS staff and other volunteers. Our Hospital Support Volunteers…  Enjoy interacting with people.  Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.  Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.  Display patience and understanding.  Are caring, empathetic, and have a sensitive approach.  Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.  Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support We ask our Hospital Support Volunteers to…  Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Hospital Support Volunteer.  Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.  Offer a warm welcome in clinical waiting areas.  Put visitors and patients at ease, providing a listening ear with an understanding manner.  Offer and prepare light refreshments (tea/coffee/water/juice).  Be familiar with the services offered by ACS. Our Hospital Support Volunteers offer emotional support, but must not offer advice or medical opinion on a patient’s treatment. Our Volunteers are in place to complement the work of staff and are not used to replace roles normally undertaken by employees.
