Description

Our clients are pretty wonderful and incredibly special to us. Each has their own unique personality and reasons for attending our centre. Your role itself will be about supporting our clients achieve their outcomes. You will need to be a good communicator, (especially listening), and patient with it on some occasions. You will need a positive outlook, good at working in a team, innovate in your thinking, fun loving and care about the happiness of our clients.

Activities based in the Fiveways centre include, music and dancing, dominoes, bingo, cards, gardening, hangman, play your cards right, painting and craftwork, baking, needlework, knitting, boccia, reminiscing, digital storytelling. Out with the centre we visit V&A, the DCA, Verdant works, McManus Galleries, garden centres, local parks, days out to coastal towns or even to a local bistro/pub for a bite to eat. At Christmas there is the Christmas parties and the obligatory pantomime.

Organisation aims and objectives

Age Concern Dundee exists to promote the wellbeing and social inclusion of older people by: identifying their changing needs, through consultation with them and their carers; and active involvement in policy planning and development of services. We provide day care for older people in our purpose built centre located at Fiveways, Caird Avenue. We provide clients with companionship in a safe and secure environment and provide a variety of activities.

Potential volunteers can work between 1 - 5 days per week, preferably 10am - 3pm, however there is scope for afternoon work from 12noon - 3pm.

Restrictions

We expect all out volunteers to be registered on the PVG scheme.
Experience required: You will need to be a good communicator, outgoing, open minded, a team player, patient, hard working, committed and reliable. Experience or knowledge in dementia, Care About Physical Activity in the elderly, and acitivity coordinating would be good but not essential.
Travel details: Fiveways day centre, and various places of interest across the city
Minimum age: 18

Expenses details: Our charity will reimburse bus tickets and fuel costs at 26p per mile.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: Potential volunteers can attend at a time of mutual agreement to experience service delivery at the 'Fiveways' centre.
Training details: The volunteer will receive induction training and regular support from the centre coordinator and the Manager
