Food Train Connects provides a one to one grocery shopping services for older people who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability. Our Connects Shopping Friends service is a fantastic way to make an impact on the lives of older people in your community. Our aim is to support older people to eat well, age well and live well.
Becoming a Food Train Connects Shopping Friend is rewarding and it makes a huge difference to people’s lives. It’s amazing the impact that regular support with grocery shopping can have on someone who is isolated or lonely. If you want to make sure that an older person is able to live well in their own home this is a great opportunity to do so.
The Role:
• Contact the older person you are matched with on a regular basis, usually weekly, to obtain their shopping list, carry out their shopping and then deliver to their home, putting away if necessary.
• Submit brief records, receipts for payment and to report any matters of concern to staff
• Keep within the boundaries of the role
• To inform Food Train Connects Staff of any accidents, incidents or complaints
• To maintain confidentiality
• To represent Food Train in a professional manner to our members and the wider community

Restrictions

Travel details: Volunteers are paired with an older person within a 5 mile radius of their home address
Minimum age: 16

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: If volunteer is not able to carry out the shopping as part of their own regular shopping trip they can claim travel expenses up to 10 miles at 45p per mile. Expenses are claimed at the time of the shopping trip
Training details: Welcome call, ID check / PVG, group training session by video conferencing, ongoing training and support from named member of staff. Handbooks and role manuals

If you want to make sure that an older person is able to live well in their own home, this is a great opportunity to do so. The Role: · Paired with an older person to collect their shopping list and do their grocery shopping once a week and delivering it to them their home. · Support them to create their shopping list, agree times and dates for delivery and help put shopping away as required. · To make payment for the shopping and then claim reimbursement from the Connects team. · To report back to Food Train Connects team and complete all required documentation after each shop. · To report any matters of concern to Food Train staff · To inform Food Train Staff of any accidents, incidents or complaints · To maintain confidentiality · To represent Food Train in a professional manner to customers and the wider community

Food Train is a registered charity, voluntary organisation and social enterprise. Since 1995 Food Train has been making daily life easier for older people, providing vital services to those who are no longer able to manage independently. Our aim is to support older people to live independently at home. Our preventative services address the difficulty older people face getting their weekly grocery shopping, doing jobs around the house and the growing isolation that comes with failing health. We also aim to provide a wide range of supported volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Would you like to volunteer to help older people in your local community? We are looking for folk to volunteer to carry out and deliver a grocery shop for an older person on a regular basis.

Food Train Connects aims to match two groups of people. • Older people (aged 65+) throughout Scotland requiring a little bit of a helping hand to continue living comfortably and contentedly at home; and • Volunteers who are willing to provide that regular support to help improve the quality of life of someone living nearby. Food Train Connects can provide vital shopping provision for anyone over 65. The customer will be matched up with a volunteer shopper in their area who will then carry out weekly shopping trips for the customer. Food Train Connects exists to provide support for older people by making these vital connections.
