Our Save the Children Shops help raise lots of money for children living in the UK and in 120 countries worldwide. It’s always lovely chatting to our customers about the fabulous items we sell and telling them about the fantastic work that Save the Children does. You’ll get the chance to meet new people and make friends plus you’ll be part of an amazing team of volunteers.Your donation of time, creativity and kindness can help improve the lives of children all over the world - via sustainable shopping! There’s so much for you to get stuck in to when you’re volunteering in our shops. We get lots of donations and it's always exciting when one of our volunteers spots a real gem. You'll be taking in, sorting, steaming and pricing donations, rolling up your sleeves in the backroom as well as being on the shop floor. Serving customers with a smile is so important. You’ll be using the till (don't worry, we'll show you how) and handling money. And when people come in to donate items you'll also be completing the Gift Aid forms that let their donations help us even more. It’s really important that our window and shop displays look appealing so people keep visiting our shops. So you'll be wielding a duster and vacuum as well as your imagination to make the shop look its best. It would be ideal if you could volunteer one shift a week, which is about four hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times. No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do and we provide all the training you’ll need. But if you have any experience or particular interest tell us, it may come in useful. It’s really easy to get your volunteering started. If you're over 18 years old, just click on ‘Apply’ and get filling in your details!

Community Connector Volunteers

British Red Cross (Aberdeen)
Postcode: AB10 6RH
It starts with ‘Hello’. From new mums to empty nesters, it's often surprising who is affected by loneliness. That's why we're teaming up with The Co-operative. Together we want to reach out and reconnect thousands of lonely people with their communities, and tackle a problem that is shortening lives and eroding wellbeing. The aim of the Community Connector is to support people affected by social isolation and loneliness and to help them gain confidence and to reconnect to their community in partnership with existing and new partner organisations. We will place the person at the centre of what we do and help them by offering positive encouragement, practical help and emotional support, for up to three months, depending on their needs. Full training and excellent support is provided to all volunteers. This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in the local community. All help is greatly appreciated. For more details please contact Ieva Nevulyte, Community Connector Co-ordinator at email inevulyte@redcross.org.uk / tel:: 07872 839864.

Language Cafes Volunteers

GREC-Grampian Regional Equality Council
Postcode: AB11 5BN
Our Language Cafes are friendly and informal weekly sessions where we invite everyone to chat in English and learn from each other about living in the UK. So far we have had over 25 different nationalities, aged be-tween 20 to 70+, with a variety of professions and educational levels. Every person attending our sessions is invited to enjoy an informal and welcoming environment that promotes tolerance and integration. Cafetistas come to learn about Aberdeen, meet people who share their circumstances and meet volunteers who would encourage them to improve their English and learn more about the UK. Every week we speak about a different topic or run an activity to encourage cafetistas to improve their language and personal skills and integrate into their community, whether in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire. *What are the benefits of being our volunteer at the Language Cafes: *You will learn about different cultures and use your personal and life skills to interact and help people who are settling in an unfamiliar environment. * You will exercise your existing capabilities and knowledge on varied topics whilst learning about new subjects and cultures. *You will learn about creative ways in which you can engage, encourage and motivate people. * You will have a positive and long lasting impact on cafetistas as well as in your community by supporting an environment of tolerance, respect and open interaction. *You will learn and practise your leading and problem solving skills as well as your creativity and adaptability. *We would like to invite volunteers who can: *Attend at least two language cafes every month over an extended period of time. This helps to support consistency and creates a solid relationship with our cafetistas and with GREC. * Research and share information with our cafetistas. * Act as moderators and lead activities with other volunteers and cafetistas during our sessions. * Create a welcoming environment by tolerating and respecting every-one attending our Language Cafes. * Ensure that everyone is given an opportunity to communicate and share their opinions during the sessions. We acknowledge our volunteers as the true foundation of the Language Cafes. A fantastic opportunity to help – with all help greatly appreciated. For more information please get in touch with Adriana via email at: language-cafe@grec.co.uk or tel.: 01224 595505.
