Social Supper Volunteers

Our vision for Social Suppers is simple, we want to be able to provide delicious and nutritious food to people who are currently homeless or experiencing food poverty. We believe in meeting people’s basic needs for food and shelter, and at the same time as building positive relationships providing individuals with opportunities to make the changes they want to make in their lives. *Why we need you: To volunteer alongside Social Bite staff and a team of volunteers to provide regular hot meals and support to people affected by homelessness (on a Thursday afternoon). *What will I be doing? • Volunteering with Social Bite shop staff to prepare the shop and get food and drink set up for each evening session. • Welcoming people to the shop. Being a friendly face and talking to them about how they are doing. • Passing on information to people about how they can access services provided by our partner charities e.g. housing/benefits advice, courses, drug/alcohol support. • Cleaning and tidying up at the end of the service. *Relevant training and excellent support is provided to all volunteers. Including: • Food Hygiene training (can be done remotely through our online training portal) • Induction with a staff member • The chance to complete a trial session to see if volunteering suits you. • A training evening, where you will be shown how we run the sessions plus information about the local services that our homeless visitors can access. • One to one support from a designated staff member as and when you need it. LinkLiving are looking for volunteers aged 16-24, to help them deliver their SmartLiving project in high schools all over Fife. SmartLiving is a homelessness prevention project, aiming to educate young people on the risks and realities of becoming homeless at a young age. Volunteers will be trained to become peer educators and take part alongside a LinkLiving project worker to deliver workshops to young people. LinkLiving are looking for volunteers with (or without) lived experience of being homeless, to share their experiences and advice with others. They know that young people are much more likely to relate to their peers (other young people) and learn from them. You should be able to volunteer around 4 hours a week. Volunteers will be provided with induction training and ongoing support with their own self-development. They will volunteer alongside a dedicated project worker and a small group of other volunteers and will be well supported in the role. Lunch will be provided for volunteers throughout.

At Counselling Care we provide free Counselling to the community of Skye and Lochalsh. Although we are largely trauma orientated we provide specialist counselling in many areas. Our Counsellors have varied specialist knowledge and we are usually able to help with any issue that presents to us. In order to provide our services for free we are completely reliant on our team of able and willing volunteer Counsellors. We need qualified (to Diploma Level) Counsellors who are members of the BACP, COSCA, or their equivalent who can spare 2-3 hours a week to work with our clients. All individuals will have been assessed. Whilst we are looking for people to work online, over the phone or face to face, we especially need those who are willing to work in a Face to Face capacity. Supervision will be paid for and travelling expenses (within reason) will be honoured. You can also expect to be included in training provided for our Counsellors. You will be part of a friendly team consisting of paid, volunteer and student Counsellors, there are regular team meetings and communication with others within the organisation so you will not be alone.

AILN also provides a budget management and payroll service to assist people to manage the payment of Personal Assistants they may choose to recruit and/or the agencies they may choose to provide their support. AILN has a staff team who provide the services day to day and they are managed by our Board of Directors who are all volunteers. We are currently seeking to recruit a small number of new Directors to join our existing Board. We are interested in hearing from people with the skills and experience we need to help us take our organisation through to the next stage in its exciting development. Volunteer Nightstop Hosts

*Do you have room? Do you have a spare room in your home that you’d be willing to open for a young person who has nowhere to stay? Our Nightstop service relies on ordinary people – just like you - with a spare bedroom which they are willing to offer to a guest. We’re looking for Nightstop hosts to volunteer to provide a young person with a safe place to stay, a hot meal, the opportunity to wash and breakfast the next day. Ideally you’ll also provide a listening ear to make a young person feel safe and secure. *Here’s how it works - -Application – Hosts need to be able to offer a young person their own private bedroom, a hot meal, breakfast and a packed lunch if needed. Access to a hot shower or bath and the use of laundry facilities within the host’s home should also be accessible. Hosts who require their young person to be out of the house through the day will be supported by the Nightstop Co-ordinator. Hosts can receive a stipend to cover costs. -Safety Checks - As part of the process, Hosts are required to complete a PVG check; a home visit will also take place. This type of support isn’t right for everyone, Nightstop must be a safe and appropriate option for both young person and the volunteer hosts. -Training - Training covers an introduction to youth homelessness, boundaries, practical tips and safeguarding rules. And we’re always on hand for a supportive phone call. -Matching - Nightstop hosts will be matched with young people, based on things like location, home environment and of course the availability of host. When a match has been made the Nightstop Co-ordinator will support the introduction of young person to the host. -Support throughout stay - Hosts and young people are offered assistance throughout the stay from Aberdeen Foyer’s Nightstop Co-ordinator with the aim that over the course of the stay, Aberdeen Foyer can support the young person to find a more long-term solution to what has taken them to the brink of homelessness. This might involve mediation with family to move back to the family home or help to explore all housing options. Aberdeen Foyer in conjunction with Nightstop offers a holistic approach. We discuss the options for continuing education, training and/or employment options; as well supporting the health and wellbeing of the young person. -Follow-up after stay - When the young person’s stay has ended, the hope is that we will have helped them on to a positive destination. Aftercare in the form of a debrief will be offered to both the host and young person and at this point, Hosts might identify training needs and support required. Hosts can take time off in between hosting one young person to the next. *How to become involved - If you have a spare room that could provide a safe place for a young person we’d love to hear from you. Castlehill Housing Trust (the Trust) is a private charitable landlord providing accommodation across the Northeast of Scotland to people with various needs including learning disabilities and mental health issues. The Trust houses over 150 people in properties that range from group homes (including Houses in Multiple Occupation) homes for families and individual tenancies. The Trust rents its properties via Private Residential Tenancies and leases directly to Care Providers. We are a subsidiary company of Castlehill Housing Association who provide services to CHT such as financial services and housing management. The Trust is governed by a Board of up to 11 Directors, who meet at least four times a year. A maximum of 6 Board members may be representatives of Castlehill Housing Association, the Trust’s parent Company. The Trust aims to ensure that the structure and make up of its Board delivers a balanced approach with a range of experience and knowledge recognising that overall strategic control sits with Castlehill, but that the Trust must operate and deliver its services in its own distinctive way, meeting the needs of its clients. *Duties of a Trust Director • ensure that CHT complies with its governing document (its Articles of Association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations. • ensure that CHT pursues its objectives by considering our vision statement and strategy for the future. • ensure CHT applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives, i.e., it must not spend money on activities which are not included in our aims, however worthwhile they may be. • contribute actively to the board of Directors' role in giving firm strategic direction to CHT, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets, and evaluating performance against agreed targets. • safeguard the good name and values of CHT. • ensure the financial stability of CHT. In addition to the above duties, each Director should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of Directors reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, evaluation, or other issues in which the Directors has special expertise. Interest of the Charity Trustees are expected to put the interest of the charity before their own interests or the interests of any other person or organisation. Applicants must be committed to the ethos/aims and objectives of the Centre. Charitable Purpose Trustee much ensure the charity is operating and fulfilling its charitable purpose as outlined within its constitution. We fund our charitable work by selling some of our donated items at our very busy retail megastore at Hazeldene Road, Aberdeen. (Old Dobbie’s building). The Megastore has many gems and bargains and has a strong local clientele who visit the store on a regular basis. We are looking for volunteers to help us sort through many of the donated items ready for sale. Nightstop Volunteer Hosts

Nightstop North-East Scotland offers temporary, emergency accommodation for young people facing homelessness. A young person accessing this service could be facing homelessness for any number of reasons, with 75% of referrals being due to a breakdown of relationships at home. This accommodation is offered in the homes of trained and vetted volunteers, who are supported by professional staff. Hosts can be anyone, with the only requirements being that they must be able to provide a spare room, a hot evening meal and a listening ear. This offers an accommodation option which may be more suitable for young people than traditional homeless hostels. Nightstop are currently looking for volunteer hosts. Hosts are offered a £15 stipend per night when Hosting and 24/7 on-call support is available throughout the stay. Event Makers Co. are a group of four final year RGU students who are fundraising for Erskine Veterans Charity. We are putting on a large makers market and workshop event and require a few volunteers to help the day run more smoothly! It is a pop-up event that aims to raise as much money as possible for Erskine, and raise awareness of the charity and their Forres Activity Centre project, which will support the large number of Veterans across the North East. The North East has a large number of Veterans, and the new activity centre will provide life-changing, and likely life-saving, support for our Veterans. Their existing activity centre in the Erskine's Veterans Village (near Paisley) has proven this. Erskine have been supporting our Veterans since 1916, and support over 1,000 Veterans across Scotland every year. Roles include: - Refreshment stand - Fundraising stand - Car parking attendants / giving directions - General assistants (floating) - Wearing the Erskine mascot costume! Similar events have attracted a few hundred people in the past. We're also happy to provide verification of volunteering hours if required for personal development, CV and so on. We are so grateful for any help in ensuring this event runs smoothly and helps us raise as much as we can for Erskine Veterans! We are fully backed by Erskine and RGU to host the event.

You will have a genuine interest and commitment to social housing, putting our customers at the centre of everything we do to continue delivering on our mission of providing sustainable homes, flexible services and vibrant communities. This is a voluntary, unpaid position but management committee members can claim travel expenses for attending meetings. IT equipment is available for use by the management committee members if required. Your commitment You will need to commit to attending 10 management committee meetings per year. These meetings are usually held in the early evening and can be attended in person or remotely. In addition, you will be expected to take part in annual skills development and training provided by the Association to support you in your role as a management committee member. As part of a local team, our fundraisers represent SSAFA at events, and in public. The role includes helping at fayres, street collections, concerts, quizzes, raffles, sporting events etc. Why do we need you? SSAFA branches rely on regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity and grants for clients in urgent need. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help. Key role responsibilities Being part of a team with collection/buckets tins at events, supermarkets, shopping centres, etc. Acting as a marshal at a public event e.g. handing out water to runners, supervising parking etc. Being part of a team running a stall at an event, Armed Forces Day, fayre, county show etc. Helping with putting up posters, building gazebos, serving refreshments, packing/unpacking cars etc. Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA, engaging people of all backgrounds and interests Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
