Driver

Butterfly Trust (The)
Postcode: EH48 4JT
Could you provide transport in your own car to hospital appointments and/or clinic visits for people affected by Cystic Fibrosis? Our clients are often not sick enough to receive mobility related benefits or can't afford to run a car. Children with Cystic Fibrosis have complex and demanding daily treatments carried out at home by family members. They attend hospital to have their health monitored regularly by specialists. We also provide transport for adults as well as accompanied children. As Cystic Fibrosis causes chronic lung disease, using transport can be detrimental to our clients health.

Outdoor Onsite Helpers, Gardeners, Handy Person Volunteers

Camphill Wellbeing Trust
Postcode: AB15 9QD
Support our exciting community Compass Project and help to transform the naturally-beautiful and historic 4.1 acre former Waldorf School site into a centre demonstrating practical solutions for healthy, sustainable lifestyles. The project has something for everyone including opportunities to find out and participate in: • sustainable building practices with conservation of the listed main building & sensitive repurposing of the others – dry-stone wall restoration, stripping back damaged plasterboard ready for refurbishment, sorting building materials and items for re-purposing and upcycling. • an integrated, creative health & education approach, supported by the natural & built environment – we offer opportunities for volunteers from secondary schools to participate in appropriate outdoor projects onsite. • sustainable social enterprise projects serving the local community and involving those with learning disabilities – experience circular economy in practice as we start to outlet local organic produce and plants onsite on a donation basis. • organic/biodynamic land use with nutritious food production, no-dig demonstration allotments, composting, beehives, wild flower meadow and woodland – keen gardeners are always welcome to come and help create a no-dig system from scratch so you never have to weed again! Experienced chain-saw operators can help manage our woodland. • repair, reuse & recycle practices minimising waste and encouraging sustainability – furniture and other items for upcycling. -Compass needs you! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to lend a hand with whatever needs doing. We hold regular volunteer days where you can enjoy meeting like-minded people working together to make a visible difference to our site after each session. Volunteers tell us it is very satisfying to see how much of a difference their work can make. Volunteers with specialised skills such as joiners, plumbers and DIY-enthusiasts will be especially welcome as we enter the next phase of our project to strip out the existing buildings ready for refurbishment. ‘Being out in the fresh air with others, seeing changes happening and feeling like I was part of a bigger process. I have also enjoyed meeting others who are enthused about the project. Sense of community, healthy activities. Very friendly co-ordinator and other helpers so feeling of welcome is lovely. I also value the fact that I only manage a couple of hours but this is still appreciated and I don't feel guilty when I feel like my body needs to stop! Beautiful grounds to work in’. – Compass volunteer ‘Such a great sense of satisfaction and wellbeing experienced at the end of 2 hours of hard physical work. This has sparked off an interest in gardening and growing plants at home. And also enjoyed being part of a community and meeting new people each time I come along who are equally enthusiastic about this project’. – Compass volunteer Everyone is welcome at Compass and we look forward to working with you onsite! You can find out more on our website: www.camphillwellbeing.org.uk/compass or email: compass@cwt.scot for further details on volunteering with this exciting project.

Peer Support Facilitators

Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (Aberdeen)
Postcode: AB10 1AB
Have you been Bereaved by Suicide? Do you have a desire to help other people who have also been Bereaved by Suicide? Are you comfortable listening to the experiences of others? You could be just the person we are looking for. We have self-help support groups across the UK, where you can meet with other people who have been bereaved by suicide and we want to enroll some new volunteers to set up a group in Aberdeen. Typically, our groups meet once a month and last for around 2 hours. Presently many groups are meeting virtually via Zoom but when regulations allow, they will return to Face to Face. They provide an opportunity to listen, to share, to ask questions and to connect with others. Each local SoBS group is run by a team of 3: the group leader and two group volunteers, all of whom have been bereaved by suicide themselves. Between them, they facilitate the session, get the conversation started, make sure everyone has the opportunity to talk if they want to, and generally look out for people and each other. The team also work together to manage the administration, fundraising and communication for the group, sometimes with the help of additional support volunteers. There is no set structure to a session – people are free to talk and listen as they wish. The topics discussed vary from week to week but often includes people sharing their story, how they are feeling, what has happened since their last group visit, questions about coroners and discussions about common challenges such as flashbacks, supporting children or facing neighbours. Many groups also offer a small resource library and can share information about local sources of support. For further details please contact Phill Abbiss, Volunteer Coordinator (North) at E Mail: phill.abbiss@uksobs.org or tel.: 07535 854 860.

Charity Trustees

Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR)
Postcode: AB25 1BT
Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR) was granted Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) charitable status in March this year. We are now looking to find talented, passionate and skilled people to fill some vacant seats on our Board of Trustees to help us grow and develop our innovative and solution focused new charity. This is a unique opportunity to help lay the foundations to ensure AiR has a long-term future as a charity with solid processes in place to ensure it meets its mission of: “To be a bridge from ‘dependence’ to ‘independence’ for the individual seeking to recover from problematic substance use and addictive behaviours”. This is such an exciting and invigorating prospect for individuals to get involved and be participant in the tsunami of change which is now gaining momentum and being driven by “Experts by Experience” and the vibrant Lived Experienced Communities which are blossoming, not only locally but are now established as a national phenomena. Since its conception, AiR and its members have worked tirelessly to establish and build collaborative relationships with professional services and third sector support agencies. We have consistently driven the message that individuals who have personal lived/living experience of active substance use, including Family members who have been affected by the addictive behaviours of a loved one, and the Recovery Communities they represent have something valid, essential and extremely beneficial to bring to described Recovery Orientated Systems of Care (ROSC). We can provide existing services and clinical structural systems with resources, skills and capabilities that they, no matter how much effort, time and money they invest, will never be able to offer or provide. So, it gives the greatest of pleasure to see this is now recognised on the highest levels that “Recoverists” can productively contribute to the design, development and delivery of truly person-centred ROSC. This being evidenced by the vision, philosophy and content of the Scottish Governments “Rights, Respect and Recovery” Drug and Alcohol Strategy. We also believe it is reaffirmed by the recent success in being granted funding from the Government’s National Development Fund, with our principle partner Alcohol and Drugs Action (ADA), for our ‘Recovery Peer Pathway’ joint two-year project. This collaborative venture will build on three years of pilot work to further establish and build proactive and productive Developmental Pathways within ADA and their Volunteer network while in synergy with AiR membership for individuals who desire to initiate change in their behaviours and outlook as they progress on their recovery journeys within, and imperatively out-with, statutory and formal support services. We believe that the blue sky thinking behind this project categorically and emphatically fits with the expectations, outcomes and concepts of the above Government policy. So, if you have lived experience, or a stakeholder interest, and a passion for recovery and are willing to give of yourself that another may learn, you will not find a better opportunity to indulge your appetite than from within Aberdeen in Recovery. For more information please contact Dermot Craig, Recovery Community Development Manager at E Mail: dermot@aberdeeninrecovery.org or tel.: 01224 638342 / Mobile: 07751 213108.

Branch Secretary Volunteer North Lanarkshire Branch

National Autistic Society
Postcode: ML3 0AA
Why we need you The charity has around 100 branches, all run by volunteers, who provide local support to people affected by autism. Every branch is different and so are the activities they provide – they may run parent support groups, adult social groups, children’s activities, conferences or focus on providing information or campaigning. However, no matter how big or small, all branches are hugely valued by the people in their local area. The branch secretary role is important to the running of the North Lanarkshire branch, as they act as a coordinator and communicator for the branch. Without these roles, we would not have as many branches as we do. What you will be doing Writing notes of what is discussed at committee meetings. These notes should be recorded in a book or on a computer. The notes should be typed up and sent to all committee members after the meeting (within one week). Booking speakers for meetings. You will need to contact the speaker by telephone or email and then continue to communicate with them to confirm their attendance and check if they need any assistance and information (such as details of transport). Booking meeting rooms for committee and Branch meetings. You will need to contact a venue in advance of when you want a meeting and confirm the date and time you want the room for. Some meeting rooms need to be paid for. If you meet there frequently, you may be able to negotiate a cheaper rate. Skills, experience and qualities useful for the role (but not essential) Able to listen to other people talking and write notes about what they are saying at the same time. Can write clearly and accurately. Confident in communicating with individuals or organisations by phone or email in order to book rooms or speakers. When and where Writing notes at committee meetings = however long the meeting lasts Typing up notes from committee meetings and sending to the committee = 1-2 hours (meetings generally once every 10 weeks) Booking speakers for meetings = 1 hour on ad hoc basis Booking meeting rooms = 30 minutes on ad hoc basis Home based (plus travel to branch activities) Ideally you will live in the North Lanarkshire area. Support Designated branch support officer to answer any queries and support you with the day to day running of the branch. Written guidance on a range of branch communications Various training courses relevant to running a branch Insurance cover for all branch activities What you could get out of it Improve support to autistic people and their families in your local area Access free training and learn new skills Meet new people Sense of satisfaction of really making a difference You will be asked to attend some branch meetings and also have knowledge of the local area so we ask that you live locally to be able to do this role. We seek applications from anyone interested in the role, but particularly welcome applications from those on the autism spectrum Whilst we are able to make reasonable adjustments for volunteers you will need to be able to volunteer independently as we are not able to offer one to one support. We process applications as we receive them, we will close the role when we recruit a suitable volunteer, consequently the role may close before the advertised closing date.

Lanarkshire Branch Caseworker

SSAFA - the Armed Forces charity
Postcode: ML11 7DG
SSAFA-the Armed Forces charity ( formerly known as the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Families Association) is the oldest military charity in the UK. We are the local Branch of the national organisation with a true volunteer ethos. We do not have a local office, so Caseworkers link in to the Branch Secretary, who allocates the cases. We are concerned with and for the military community and their families. Providing the client has given ONE days service within the military, they could be entitled to a SSAFA visit to determine how they and their family could be helped. The casework provides an amazing support to Veterans and their families, of all ages. We arrange face to face meetings with our clients in their homes ( obviously not at present) to discuss their needs and requirements. Following the meeting and completion of necessary administration, we liaise with Regimental funds and other military charities to review the assistance being sought. The case working role does not entail financial requirements, other than making the recommendation of the financial need of the client. We now have an administrative support package in place, to assist Caseworkers. The rewards of volunteering with SSAFA Lanarkshire are both personal satisfaction and a great sense of achievement in helping people in their time of need or cry for help. In May this year, SSAFA Lanarkshire Branch were awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

Graphic Design Volunteer

Charlie House
Postcode: AB25 1HZ
*Background Our charity was established to improve quality of life for babies, children and young people in the North East of Scotland who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and to provide support to their families. The Charlie House vision has always been to have a purpose-built facility in Aberdeen to support families in the region. The Charlie House ‘Big Build Appeal’ was established to raise the £8m required to support this long-term goal. The building and planned services provided by the centre will dramatically change the support available to these children and their families locally, when they need it. The 8-bedroom facility will vitally offer parents and carers the chance to recharge their batteries, safe in the knowledge that their children will be in the care of specially trained medical staff. *Role We are looking for an experienced graphic designer to work with us to develop the resources required to deliver the next phase of our Build Appeal. We are due to launch a campaign in March that will see us break ground and begin the build, but first we need to raise the funds. The role of the graphic design volunteer is to assist with the design of the range of resources that we need to communicate the project and secure support from a range of audiences. The resources required include: • Flyers, posters, presentations, and brochures • Social media graphics and other assets for use by Charlie House and our partners • Infographics: transforming our content into impact visuals. • Assets for our website including banners, tiles and images The next phase of the campaign is due to launch in March with some critical resources required by then. We will then phase the development of the resources required to allow us to extend to new audience segments as we progress. You will be working with the Big Build project team, an external creative agency the Charlie House Marketing and Communications team who will provide the Charlie House/Big Build branding, style guideline and creative assets, and oversee consistency across all resources. *The impact you will have Your creative output will shape the next phase of the big Build project, allowing us to reach the £8million target and commence the build of the Charlie House facility. With your help we will be able to continue to provide our team with the tools they need to communicate and secure funding to provide this vital service to the families that so desperately need it. *Time commitment Minimum of 3 hours per week with a minimum commitment of 15 hours to the project. A fantastic opportunity to assist with a major charity in Aberdeen. All help makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated. For more details please contact Kerry Campbell, HR Manager at email kerry@charliehouse.org.uk or tel.: 01224 313333.

Do you know a thing or two about websites or I.T. and could you share some of your expertise, for a short time to help Moray Fresh Start? This is a one off opportunity to help them upgrade their tech -- website, email, donating, social media -- all four are in place but they believe they could be much more effective! This is a chance to review current systems, review opportunities present changes to the committee and then importantly set up or help us to set up the agreed changes. Training of a small group of two to four computer confident volunteers would be most welcomed too! The opportunity could be one off project or could continue from time to time if the volunteer wished. This a small local charity dedicated to offering practical support to homeless people securing a tenancy and making a fresh start in life! Your expertise and skill would be very much appreciated for whatever time and advice you could give.

Volunteers assist the Family Support Group Coordinator to provide the activities. We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have experience of supporting families and have ideas for activities to engage our younger children. Perhaps you have an interesting hobby or a creative mind? Either way, we are keen to build on the range of activities offered and would love to hear your ideas. Please note, we are currently working to government guidelines and have various measures in place to protect our families, volunteers and staff. Please feel free to get in touch to speak to us about these safety measures should you have any concerns.

Shetland Bereavement Support Service
Postcode: ZE1 0JP
SBSS is a confidential bereavement service for people who need structure care and support following the death of someone. We are looking to recruit new committee members. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 5.30pm. We're a really friendly bunch an most meetings are lightsome and quick. Why not come along for a meeting to see what you think before committing yourself1?! SBSS is a charity, and is led by the committee - so you get to make a real difference to shape the delivery and direction of the service in Shetland. It's a great way of giving something back to Shetland and the community - without a committee, we can't run and there would be no SBSS.

Child Contact Centre Volunteer

Relationships Scotland (Scottish Borders)
Postcode: TD1 1DQ
Volunteers work with our Duty Officers to help bring families experiencing difficulties back together. Children and parents naturally belong together but there are often barriers to overcome. From broken marriages/relationships to estranged parents/grandparents to parents rehabilitating from jail or addiction. We believe that positive and healthy relationships are at the heart of a successful and vibrant Scotland. Relationships are under greater pressure than ever before, with family breakdown costing the Scottish economy around £3 billion each year. (Relationships Foundation – Cost of Family Breakdown Index 2013) One in five couples in Scotland experienced significant relationship difficulties during lockdown and 6% of couples decided to separate. (Census-wide research undertaken on behalf of Relationships Scotland and Relate, 2020). Scottish Government research found that many organisations had a significant increase in referrals from women experiencing domestic abuse and mental health difficulties. (Scottish Government, Covid 19: Domestic Abuse and other forms of violence, 18 Sept 2020) Our service receives government funding to assist in keeping children in touch with their families when times are difficult. Role Description : Volunteers assist the Contact Centre Duty Officers to prepare the Centre for families by ensuring a safe space and getting out toys, books etc for them to use. They also help create a warm and social atmosphere which encourages children to relax and enjoy their visit. Volunteers support the contact between children and visiting parents or grandparents. They can sometimes provide refreshments for children and their families and seek to protect children from conflict. They can also take children from one parent to another if the parents don't want to meet.

Home Visitor

Home-Start East Fife
Postcode: KY16 9EQ
Volunteers help to increase confidence and independence in families by offering support, friendship and practical help. They visit families in their own homes in order to protect and respect each individual’s dignity and identity. A relationship then develops in which understanding and trust can grow. Volunteers often reassure families that difficulties in bringing up children are not unusual, emphasise the positive aspects of family life, encourage parents strengths and emotional well-being and encourage the family to widen their network and effectively use the support and services available in the community. A volunteer may choose to offer support to more than one family and is supported throughout by a co-ordinator. A Preparation Course is delivered in a fun and rewarding environment. Owing to the ongoing pandemic some training and support may be delivered remotely i.e. phone/video calls, outdoor visits etc. Further guidance will be provided as part of induction.

Shop Drivers

Home-Start Aberdeen
Postcode: AB25 1HU
Home-Start Aberdeen supports local families, who may be vulnerable or suffering from isolation, with emotional and practical support in their own homes. Our charity shop, which raises valuable funds towards our work, opened in 2012. It is located in the heart of the city at 101 George Street, opposite John Lewis. A key component of the shop’s success is our collections/uplift service within the city. This helps to ensure that we have a steady supply of quality stock for the shop floor. The shop is therefore always keen to recruit new volunteer drivers, who could assist us by collecting donations from homes and organisations within Aberdeen (we also uplift from Westhill). This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys driving and has some spare time to become part of our pool of volunteer drivers. A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential. No fixed commitment in terms of hours is required. Becoming a volunteer driver is a rewarding way to support Home-Start Aberdeen’s work with local families. We are now one of the largest Home-Start schemes in Scotland; this volunteer position is therefore also a good opportunity to contribute to the work of a wider team. The tasks involved are maintaining and identifying paths in the neighbourhood of Liff, Birkhill/Muirhead, Auchterhouse, and we have been a very successful organisation over the last 20 or so years. The Rosemill/ Auchterhouse station railway path is an excellent example of what we have helped organise, in conjunction with Angus Council and we are always on the lookout for more paths to add to those available. As a committee we meet about 7 or 8 times a year and we have our own expert in using weedkillers where necessary, and we have connections with other groups who provide labour for tasks such as cutting back grass and weeds when these become too thick for walkers. So the secretary would have the tasks of organising meetings, booking venues for same, contacting grass cutting groups (including where necessary the appropriate expertise at Angus Council).

Volunteer Caseworker (Harris)

SSAFA (WI)- The Armed Forces Charity
Postcode: HS1 2DG
Would you like to support people who have served in the Armed Forces? You don’t need a military background, just the ability to listen, some basic I.T skills and good written and spoken English. If so, this could be the role for you. What is a caseworker? Caseworkers work with clients to figure out what type of help they need. Next, they find the right sources of support and arrange for clients to access it. This might be funds for special equipment for someone with a disability, adaptions to a property so an older client can remain at home or funds for a rental deposit. Caseworkers also sign-post clients onto specialist local services for advice on benefits, housing, mental health, debt, finding work etc. Why do we need you? Volunteer Caseworkers are the lifeblood of SSAFA, supporting a growing number of people in need of financial, practical and emotional support. Clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan. Our trained volunteers listen without judgement to assess and provide tailored support to help people navigate life in and beyond military service. We need you to join your local SSAFA team to help us achieve this.

KLSB Community Volunteer (Larbert, Stenhousemuir and surrounding areas)

The KLSB Community Group (Keeping Larbert and Stenhousemuir Beautiful)
Postcode: FK5 4HD
The KLSB Community Group was formed in 2018 after it was identified that there was a need for a local group in the area to help tackle issues including food insecurities, social welfare, support and general community wellbeing. We started as a small litter picking group where we gained support from local residents, groups and businesses. Since those early days we have now become a registered Scottish charity who operate a food pantry, a support hub and we are also in the process of bringing a large community garden to the area. We continue to work in the community by bringing colour to our public gardens as well as our micro gardens which can be found throughout our area. Poverty affects millions of people in the UK. Poverty means not being able to heat your home, pay your rent, or buy the essentials for your children. It means waking up every day facing insecurity, uncertainty, and impossible decisions about money. It means facing marginalisation - and even discrimination - because of your financial circumstances. The constant stress it causes can lead to problems that deprive people of the chance to play a full part in society. We operate a community food pantry in King Street, Stenhousemuir where Falkirk residents can join, and be entitled to a weekly shopping at a much reduced cost. We also operate a food bank where we take referrals from local authorities and groups such as church groups, councillors, doctors, schools, Support for People, Self-Isolation Support & Social Workers. We provide this range of services with help from many local volunteers and we offer you the chance to join us, we are an enthusiastic and welcoming team who work together to make a positive impact on our community, volunteer tasks include: - planting and maintaining local green spaces, including our flowering planters - helping out at the Food Pantry by serving pantry users, organising and sorting food items, keeping the area clean and tidy - helping out at events or at our Community Hub where our other community groups are welcomed to host their own meetings and get-togethers, free of charge

Befriender for Children and Families

Home Link Family Support.
Postcode: EH22 3NX
Many Midlothian parents need someone to talk to. They may have no friends or family to confide in. Or they may want someone like you who they can trust to be non-judgemental about the ups and downs of family life. They would like to have your praise and encouragement and for you to share their interest in their child’s development. The families all have children under 5 and are experiencing some difficulty or stress. Volunteers make a real difference by offering them a listening ear and emotional support. At the moment we need male and female volunteers who are able to spend time with families in the community. Usually our volunteers make 2 hr home visits, but we cannot offer face to face volunteering in the home at present. Our aim is to make families more confident and resilient. We’ll train you to be a good listener to the parent’s worries and to encourage them to give their children a positive start in life. Each family needs something different, most of them need another adult for a non-judgmental weekly chat; someone reliable that they can trust; helping families to be more organised; to read a story to the children; helping parents feel more confident about playing with their children. We’ll support you all the way with regular support from a paid staff member. We’ll repay any out of pocket expenses. We’ll also match you carefully with the type of family that suits you to ensure that you can build a good supportive relationship. We’ve been going for over 30 years and won awards for our work. Our volunteers say they feel very well looked after and that they get really solid experience to use in careers like Social Work, Social Care and Psychology. Others just say it is fun and rewarding to be able to make such a difference to a family. Our next training will be online in November 2021. For an application form go to www.homelinkfamilysuport.org or email info@homelinkfamilysupport.org or telephone 0131 661 0890

Food & Fun Volunteers

Aberdeen City Council Food & Fun Programme
Postcode: AB10 1AB
Food and Fun was introduced by the Council as a pilot to deliver free meals and activities to children in key areas of Aberdeen during school holiday periods and has been rolled out on a permanent basis. Over Christmas, as an extension of the project, special events were hosted for young people to enjoy the festivities – from ice skating and crafts to a disco and visit to Santa. For everyone involved in Food and Fun there’s a busy period ahead. The main aim is to ensure children continue to be fed, recognising the importance of school meals during term time for a large number of families, and also to provide the opportunity to take part in physical activity in a nurturing environment. The initiative has been recognised with awards – but the reward and motivation for the many people who have put their heart and soul into developing the programme is in the positive impact there is on children, families and communities. When we talk about our purpose – about caring for our city and our people – we think Food and Fun is a shining example that we can all be incredibly proud of. Many participants obtain great life skills which has assisted them in securing other opportunities as well as the personal development and satisfaction that this also brings. All help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. To volunteer / for more information please contact Martin Smith, Locality Inclusion Manager at E Mail: martinsmith@aberdeencity.gov.uk or Tel.: 01224 788538.

Home-Start East Fife
Postcode: KY14 7AP
Home-Start East Fife is a Family Support charity offering support and friendship for parents with young children (0-5years). We offer support to families across East Fife through home visiting volunteers and Family Support Groups. The purpose of the Home-Start East Fife Family Support Groups is bringing together parents and children who may be feeling isolated or lacking in confidence and who may like the opportunity to meet other families. Children have the opportunity to play with their peers and form friendships and are also encouraged to play with parents. We provide activities that are designed to allow families to play and grow together and to build confidence in a relaxed atmosphere. Volunteers assist the Family Support Group Co-ordinator to provide the activities, snacks and on occasions a bit of respite for parents who are feeling overwhelmed or providing parents space to spend time with an older child whilst a volunteer holds the baby. Owing to the ongoing pandemic some training and support may be delivered remotely i.e. phone/video calls, outdoor visits etc. Further guidance will be provided as part of induction.

We support individuals, families and volunteers to develop meaningful and lasting friendships. If you have 2 -3 hours a fortnight to give to someone this rewarding role could be just right for you. We ask for a minimum 1 year commitment , in return you will receive full training, ongoing support and development, the opportunity to make real and lasting connections and be part of something truly special. Equal Futures is an organisation set up by a group of parents with a family member with a learning disability. This gives a unique viewpoint to the range of challenges families face when they want to make sure that their sons and daughters live a good life. Many families feel isolated; unsure where to ask for help. Most people with disabilities will have social care services to provide support for daily living. But there is often a lack of understanding in these services that people want more than this. Everyone wants friends too – this is where Equal Futures can help.
