Forth Valley Sensory Centre - Clacks
Postcode: FK10 2RS
The Forth Valley Sensory Centre (FVSC) was established in 2006 as the first sensory centre in the UK. They are a hub where people with a visual or hearing loss, their friends, families, carers and the wider community can access quality services and advice from their partner organisations. FVSC's vision is a world where those with sensory loss can live confident and inclusive lives. The Centre run's more than 25 groups and classes as a way to tackle the social isolation that many individuals with sensory loss face. The group also run events and fundraisers throughout the year and have have a café and sensory garden which is open to the public Monday – Friday. They have recently received funding to establish their own Wee County Hub in Clackmannanshire and are looking for volunteers to help bring theirservices to as many people as possible. The main part of the role is to go to external events, info stalls, and open days to promote the Centre and tell the public about the services that we provide. Volunteers will be doing a combination of working independently and with other staff and volunteers, depending on the exact event. All promotional materials given will be made up in advance for you. The timings and location will usually vary. FVSC sometimes will have open days run by ourselves at the Hub in Alloa. If there is something that volunteers would like to do, please just get in touch as we can be very flexible and add to the role.

We currently have opportunities for people to become involved in: · Scoring – keeping match scores, maintaining statistics etc. · Umpiring- the cricket equivalent of refereeing We run two adult teams which play on Saturdays, Sundays and on some mid-week evenings and are looking to recruit scorers and umpires for both teams. These opportunities would be suitable for people who have an interest in sport, but do not wish to participate as players. They provide an opportunity to be part of the team, without taking part in the more physical elements of the game. There are established pathways in these disciplines that allow people to progress from officiating at local clubs through to international sport. Get in touch to start your volunteering journey at Strathmore Cricket Club.

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum Engagement Volunteers

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum (SA)
Postcode: KA7 4PQ
Try new things and decide on the career for you. We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities which are great for learning about the work of a particular location or role. At the Trust, there’s a role for everyone. Volunteering doesn’t have to be a slog – we’ve got a wide range of projects across Scotland that are suited to all ages. This is a very exciting time. Many local people visit the property regularly for a variety of reasons, it is also a popular stop-off point for a walk, food and beverages or to enjoy the playpark. The property runs a number of successful events throughout the year and we would like to know more about who comes to those events, is it mainly local people or do people come from more further afield? We would also like to know what draws them to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, what is special about it and what else would help the property build and maintain stronger community relationships or perhaps we need to offer different types of events that would appeal to visitors. To find this information out we need to ask people their views and so we are seeking to recruit a small team of Engagement volunteers to help us carry out research at each event who we will support and train to ask those important questions. What’s included in the role? The main part of this role will have you positioned in the Burns Museum when events are happening, interacting with visitors, etc and asking a series of set questions to help the Trust gather vital information about the community needs, aspirations about days experience. Why should I volunteer in this role? Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to meet lots of different people and make new friends. Most of our volunteer roles are flexible and can be tailored to meet your needs. Our volunteer manager will be happy to discuss any help that you might need to volunteer when you first meet up.

Postcode: KA26 9AJ
Volunteering at parkrun is an opportunity to get outside, make new friends, have fun, learn new skills and to be a valuable part of your local community. We are always looking for new volunteers. This page explains how to get involved. What would I do at the Event? First, and most importantly, we never ask anybody to do anything they're not comfortable with. If you don't want a particular task, please let us know and we will happily give you an alternative job. Nevertheless, none of our tasks are too stressful. You could be marshaling, or using the parkrun volunteer app to record times or scan barcodes, operating the timer, or scanning barcodes using the simple Virtual Volunteer app. If you really want to do something in particular, please let us know and we'll see what we can do. To find out more, please visit our website https://www.parkrun.org.uk/girvanprom/ or have a look at our page on Facebook. The core team: Girvan Prom parkrun happens largely because of our fantastic volunteers. The weekly team of volunteers are led by a small group of parkrun enthusiasts who form what we call the 'core team': They make sure the event is setup and packed away each week, the results published, the tokens resorted, event reports written and so much more. Event Director - Moira McDowall. We're very grateful to the help provided by everybody, both now and in the past, who've helped make Girvan Prom parkrun happen.

SSAFA - The Armed Forces Charity
Postcode: PH1 5BT
Would you like to support people who have served in the Armed Forces? You don’t need a military background, just some spare time occasionally, and an ability to get on with people from diverse backgrounds and age groups. If so, this could be the role for you. What is a Helper? SSAFA Helpers provide support to local SSAFA branches, so that the service to veterans and their families can run smoothly. Perhaps you could help out at an event, take care of some office admin, or give a talk about SSAFA? Why do we need you? We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers. We have peak times throughout the year when we need extra volunteers. Whether you enjoy organising behind the scenes or being out meeting the public, we need people who can offer some time on a flexible basis. When would you be needed and where would you be based? This role will suit you if you are looking to volunteer on a flexible basis as and when you are available, and we need extra help. You may be based in an office, at home, or out and about at events.

Host a Tea Party

Re-engage (Angus)
Postcode: DD8 2AQ
Our tea party hosts are a vital part of the Re-engage team. Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Re-engage needs enthusiastic volunteers to work as tea party hosts. This is a flexible, voluntary role that can easily be fitted in around your own lifestyle and availability. As a volunteer host you will run a local Re-engage tea party one to two times a year. You will host a group made up of volunteer drivers, the group coordinator and older guests in either your home or a community venue. The tea parties will last around two hours and will usually take place on a Sunday afternoon. You must be comfortable socialising with people and providing guests and other volunteers with refreshments. You will need one reference and to complete an ID check for this role. Tasks include: • Welcoming a group of older guests and volunteer drivers into your home or to the community venue. • Providing and serving refreshments for your group – usually food and drinks for afternoon tea. • Liaising with your group coordinator to ensure dietary requirements and the older guests' needs are met prior to the tea party. • Informing the group coordinator of any safeguarding concerns or issues you might have. • Following all guidance in your host training modules to ensure that the tea parties are enjoyable, appropriate, and in line with our charitable aims. The number of older guests attending your tea party will be confirmed by the group coordinator prior to the group meeting so you have plenty of time to plan. It is important for the older guests to have access to a downstairs toilet. They will also require seating; a combination of lounge chairs and hard back chairs is fine. Don’t worry if you don’t have chairs for all the drivers as they will be circulating and helping you if required, so you can enjoy the afternoon too. A lot of stairs can present problems, although just a few steps are usually manageable. Experience required: No experience necessary however we are looking for hosts with the following skills and attributes: • Organised • Good conversational skills • An enthusiasm for making genuine connections with older people in your community • A friendly, patient, and empathetic approach • Passion for entertaining, providing food and refreshments • Basic understanding of food hygiene • Basic computer literacy (including the ability to use email)

I take guided tours round the Museum site, organise the free, open to all Highlight Talks held at the Museum roughly every fortnight from September to June. I've also been involved with fund raising events to support the work of the Museum. A memorable moment, from volunteering, was the fun of reading the Gruffalo in Scots for two Australian visitors. I just happened to meet them in the Monument Gardens, got talking and agreed to their request to read the Scots language version of the book. Another memory is meeting the family of the Night Watchman who prevented Suffragettes blowing up Burns Cottage in 1914." - Melvyn

Volunteer Fundraiser

Crossroads South Ayrshire
Postcode: KA9 2HQ
Crossroads is a registered charity which has been operating for 37 years in South Ayrshire (although also with a national footprint). We provide a highly needed service in offering a respite service for at home carers. The charity runs with a small office team supported by a team of Care Attendants and over seen by a Management Committee comprising of volunteers who each bring a different set of skills and expertise to aid the operation of the charity. Our next aim is to raise our profile in South Ayrshire and we would gladly welcome the support of volunteers who would like to share our aim and interest by supporting us, as a volunteer fundraiser. Ideally the volunteer would have a sales and marketing background, yet it is not mandatory as the sales pitch can be delivered by one of the committee members. The volunteer fundraiser would support by identifying donors, raising the group's profile, writing applications for funding opportunities, organising events, etc. The group meets on a Tuesday of every second month at 7pm in a meeting room at Biggart Hospital, Prestwick (where the office is located), yet most of the volunteering can easily be done remotely and perhaps meet with the team occasionally as required. Kindly fill in the contact us form on https://crossroads-sa.org.uk/contact.asp and we will get back to you at our earliest.
