Energy Team Volunteer

REAP
Postcode: IV30 1BU
This winter is going to be a very busy one for REAP's energy advisors. They'll be visiting communities across Moray giving energy advice and helping people find practical ways to cope with the rising costs of energy. Could you help this team? A few volunteers are needed to provide a wee bit of practical logistical support to the Energy team during outreach events or workshops. An extra pair of hands, for example, to help up and set down a gazebo, distribute flyers, and perhaps most importantly, practically support the Energy adviser with any small operational tasks that will help the event run as smoothly as possible. Times are flexible and you don't need to commit to every event... If you'd like to find out more, please just get in touch.

Virtual Walking Tour leader

The No 1 Be-friending Agency
Postcode: G51 2BX
What are our aims? The No.1 Befriending Agency is a vibrant social enterprise that aims to reduce loneliness and isolation. We welcome people from all backgrounds to join our team where you will make a positive impact in your community and support vulnerable adults (aged 18+). By volunteering with No.1, you will support us in our aims of building service users' confidence and enhancing their quality of life. You will also help develop the dynamic of the organisation for service users, strengthening the friendly and inclusive environment that has been created. In June 2022, we launched our Heritage Project. The project ties in with our aim to reduce the loneliness and isolation of vulnerable people through befriending and is based on the idea that ‘every life is a story’. We are sharing stories, memories and experiences with each other, to encourage the exploration of heritage and promote connectivity in the community. What does the role involve? We run virtual events three times a week on Mondays (2-3pm), Wednesday (11am-12pm) and Friday (2-3pm). Our Virtual Walking Tours will take place as part of these events, allowing those who live alone and feel isolated to connect with local areas around Glasgow. We are looking for enthusiastic and engaging volunteers to lead these sessions. Volunteers will share virtual walking tours, using pictures and descriptions of local areas, stories and landmarks, with service users from the comfort of everyone’s living rooms. Please note, the role does not require doing the walking tour whilst on Zoom. We have resources for you, the volunteer, to take service users on a walking tour that has already been planned. We also welcome volunteers’ own ideas, and would love to host a walking tour planned by you! Full induction training will be given, with ongoing support meetings from volunteer coordinators. We ask if you can commit to one to four sessions a month (2-8 hours a month including preparation time) to come and lead a walking tour. For more information, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators on info@befriend.org.uk or 0141 465 6998

In-Person Events Assistant in Maryhill

The No 1 Be-friending Agency
Postcode: G51 2BX
Are you enthusiastic and motivated? Are you wanting to get involved in supporting in-person events? We have the role for you! We are looking for Event Assistants to help us at events including coffee mornings, reminscing sessions and heritage activities. Support the No.1 Befriending Agency team to reduce loneliness and isolation by helping to facilitate our in-person events. The No.1 Befriending Agency was formed by a group of professionals who, when working as carers for older adults, frequently experienced that the people they cared for longed for meaningful interaction in addition to the simple mechanical acts of care they received. In order to tackle this loneliness and isolation, we created a befriending service where trained volunteers visit and spend time with isolated older people. The specific tasks for the role might include: • Document the event through photos/videos during the event • Working closely with volunteer coordinators to ensure the event runs smoothly • Gather quotes from clients and volunteers about their experience during event • Writing a blog after the event • Help support clients during the event • Make tea/coffee for service users This role is flexible so you can make it work to your schedule. We will publish a programme of events for Maryhill, and you can sign up when it works for you. Events will take place between Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm. If you are interested please click the ‘Apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on info@volunteerglasgow.org.

We have three church halls and these host a number of groups, both Church and Community. One of these groups os the Indoor Bowling Club which has been established since 1997. The modest annual subscription allows many to join in the fun, however we need some helping hands and backs to set up before the activities. Volunteers can helps us out by: Getting the brand new indoor bowling mats from storage, onto trolleys and rolled out in one of the halls. If volunteers wish so, they can either join in the bowling or else they can decide to drop by later at the same hall and help out again, by rolling up the mats and taking them back to storage. Bowling sessions are usually held between 1:30pm and 4pm, so ideally the halls are ready set around 1pm and cleared again after 4pm.

Technical and Artisan Volunteer

IFDAS River Garden (South Ayrshire)
Postcode: KA6 5AE
We appreciate and value the support given to us at RGA by volunteers. Our volunteers help and support our residents, garden, social enterprise projects and charity to grow and develop. They become part of the community, which is at the heart of River Garden. If you have skills and an enthusiasm to support our work then please do contact us; we would love to hear from you. We have many different areas for you to consider, such as the technical and artisan supported workshops we offer to our residents, such as woodwork, metalwork, painting and decorating or any other trade that you might be experienced in. One of our volunteer, had these thoughts to share- "Volunteering can be a very satisfying and worthwhile endeavour, particularly if you feel you can make a difference from your efforts. Never more so than at River Garden, where with woodworking and woodturning skills as part of my skillset, I found the opportunity to become part of the major project to refurbish the existing woodworking workshop and to help it grow and develop into a thriving social enterprise. With a passion for all things wooden, I have become immersed within the current refurbishment programme as well as in the interim, teaching residents woodturning at my own workshop in Ayr. Never before have I been so rewarded and fulfilled with the results that ensued. Similarly the progression of residents’ woodturning skills over the preceding months has been amazing to watch. I have been exceptionally fortunate to have had the opportunity to volunteer in a charity that makes a difference to people’s lives and ultimately enhance and enrich their journey of rehabilitation and recovery."

Crossroads South Ayrshire
Postcode: KA9 2HQ
Crossroads is a registered charity which has been operating for 37 years in South Ayrshire (although also with a national footprint). We provide a highly needed service in offering a respite service for at home carers. The charity runs with a small office team supported by a team of Care Attendants and over seen by a Management Committee comprising of volunteers who each bring a different set of skills and expertise to aid the operation of the charity. Our next aim is to raise our profile in South Ayrshire and we would gladly welcome the support of volunteers who would like to share our aim and interest by supporting us, as a volunteer fundraiser. Ideally the volunteer would have a sales and marketing background, yet it is not mandatory as the sales pitch can be delivered by one of the committee members. The volunteer fundraiser would support by identifying donors, raising the group's profile, writing applications for funding opportunities, organising events, etc. The group meets on a Tuesday of every second month at 7pm in a meeting room at Biggart Hospital, Prestwick (where the office is located), yet most of the volunteering can easily be done remotely and perhaps meet with the team occasionally as required. Kindly fill in the contact us form on https://crossroads-sa.org.uk/contact.asp and we will get back to you at our earliest.
