Driver

Home 2 Hospital
Postcode: FK5 4WR
Home 2 Hospital is a newly registered charity, set up by a group of volunteers, which is mirrored from three existing charities in different local areas. Our joint mission is to help cancer patients attend medical appointments on time and ease their stress by being chauffeured in comfort by our friendly and caring volunteers. Our service is easily accessible and completely free for all patients. We need to build a team of 20 -25 volunteer drivers to support the anticipated demand for this service with the Larbert & Stenhousemuir community. The client and the driver will agree what time to leave in order to arrive at the hospital on time. The driver will usually wait at the hospital until the client has received their treatment and once finished head straight home. This reduces stress as the client doesn't have to leave early to accomodate other patients or wait until everyone is finished before heading home. Travelling by car is more comfortable than a minibus and also reduces the infection risk for clients who may have a weakened immune system. Drivers will be trained on the routes and parking places at hospitals.

We deliver to 45 elderly and 15 socially isolated people within the PSG area. This service allows our staff and volunteers to provide extra support to people within our community. While the main priority is to provide them with a hot meal another positive outcome is that our staff and service users get contact for a small amount of time on drop off of their food before the weekend. For some, the person delivering their food is the only contact they have each week so we make sure to have a wee chat. This service has been another essential program within the befriending project and we are still seeing a need for it within the community with a small increase in numbers being added every month.

Shop Drivers

Home-Start Aberdeen
Postcode: AB25 1HU
Home-Start Aberdeen supports local families, who may be vulnerable or suffering from isolation, with emotional and practical support in their own homes. Our charity shop, which raises valuable funds towards our work, opened in 2012. It is located in the heart of the city at 101 George Street, opposite John Lewis. A key component of the shop’s success is our collections/uplift service within the city. This helps to ensure that we have a steady supply of quality stock for the shop floor. The shop is therefore always keen to recruit new volunteer drivers, who could assist us by collecting donations from homes and organisations within Aberdeen (we also uplift from Westhill). This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys driving and has some spare time to become part of our pool of volunteer drivers. A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential. No fixed commitment in terms of hours is required. Becoming a volunteer driver is a rewarding way to support Home-Start Aberdeen’s work with local families. We are now one of the largest Home-Start schemes in Scotland; this volunteer position is therefore also a good opportunity to contribute to the work of a wider team. Butterfly Trust (The) (Midlothian)
Postcode: EH22 1AE
Volunteering is a fantastic way to make a difference to the life of someone else. It can also be an incredible opportunity to enhance your own life and build new skills to help your personal and career development. Our drivers provide transport for people affected by Cystic Fibrosis to hospital appointments. Our clients do not need any physical help getting in and out of the vehicle. Children and young people with Cystic Fibrosis have to attend clinic appointments in hospitals to have their health monitored, usually every three months. Traveling in public transport poses risks of infection and waiting for transport in our typical inclement weather is undesirable because of their chronic lung condition. Our drivers provide transport from home ensuring a safe and comfortable journey. This service makes a real difference by reducing some of the pressure on families at this time.

Postcode: G81 1UJ
Our tea party drivers are a vital part of the Re-engage team. Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Drivers take older people to the parties and stay with them to enjoy the get-together. As a tea party driver, you liaise with your group coordinator and take older guests to and from the tea parties each month. Staying at the tea party is part of your role, so it’s much more than being a driver. Tasks include: Driving one to two older guests using your own car to a tea party venue and returning them home again after the event . Staying at the tea party to help with conversation and serve refreshments. Liaising with the group coordinator to confirm which older guests you will pick up. Volunteer Transport Driver

The Prince's Foundation
Postcode: KA18 2NJ
Opened in 2019, the Health and Wellbeing Centre at Dumfries House provides a range of holistic services to the local community. Services are GP and patient-led, with referrals from primary and secondary care providers. Run by The Prince’s Foundation, it provides an Integrated Health and Wellbeing Programme, with the centre also open to health charities and other organisations. The organisation is running a range of health care programmes for the community free of charge, such as Chronic Pain, Obesity and Weight Management, and Mental health courses. These are open to anyone in Ayrshire. Although based at the wonderful Dumfries House Estate at the health and wellbeing centre, this location might also be problematic to people who would like to join but do not have the means and ways to get to the estate since there is no public transport links. Volunteer drivers would support both us as a foundation but more importantly the participants. Volunteer drivers transport people from their homes to Dumfries House and back to their residences, using their own vehicles. The volunteer drivers are reassured that the participants will be assessed that they are fit to get in and out of the vehicles on their own. The different wellbeing programmes run in between 6 to 12 weeks with morning and/or afternoon sessions. Each session lasts for 3 hours and volunteer drivers can either opt to leave and return the estate or else enjoy a walk in the grounds and a complimentary tea or coffee. Personal Qualities: • The ability to be supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others. • Warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen. • Patience and understanding. • Enjoy interacting with people. • Willingness to get involved. • An understanding of the importance of a regular commitment.

Assistant Beaver Leader/Section Assistant

6th Forfar Scouts Assocation
Postcode: DD8 3JD
Put your skills to use, learn new ones and play an active role in your community. Volunteering is easier than you think. with full support and training, you can volunteer on a flexible basis. Give young people the skills they need to succeed in life and discover how being part of the Scouting family can be as rewarding for you as it is for them. What do volunteers do? Week by week, our volunteers empower thousands of young people to learn new skills, make new friends and stand on their own two feet. They’re our everyday heroes. They shape young people’s lives for the better, and find out a whole lot about themselves in the process, too. That’s where you come in. You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Beaver or Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. We’re talking about tea makers, tidy-uppers and skill sharers. We’re talking about minibus drivers and first aiders. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family. Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. We provide the training. All of our adult volunteers receive full induction and ongoing training and support. Our training has been recognised with a National Training Award by UK Skills and over 90% of our volunteers believe that the skills and experiences they have gained have been of relevance to their working or personal lives. You show up, get stuck in, and make memories for life. As long as you're over 18, you can help out as a Beaver leader. There is no upper age limit for adult volunteers. Sounds fun? Worthwhile? It is.

Volunteer Driver

Bo'ness Car 4U
Postcode: EH51 9LT
Volunteer Drivers with Boness Car 4U will be asked to take people registered with any Bo'ness Medical Practice who have been diagnosed with cancer from their homes to places of treatment, then home again, using their own vehicles. The service the volunteers provide is much needed giving patients the dignity, respect and convenience that they deserve at a difficult time in their lives and is greatly appreciated by them. We know that helping in this way gives volunteers a lot of role satisfaction and below we've noted more information about what the role looks like in practice, and what the expectations are so interested people can make sure it's the right role for them: We pay our drivers 40 pence per mile for fuel used and this had no effect on any benefits the driver may be in receipt of. Insurance premiums should be unaffected but we advise drivers to notify their insurers to let then know they intend to use the car for voluntary work. Each volunteer driver will be asked to undergo a process of safeguarding training and (in order to comply with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups scheme) following this they will be PVG checked/gain a PVG certificate for their voluntary role with BC4U (this is cost free to the volunteer). Drivers are issued with a clear plastic cough screen which is fitted to the vehicle headrests which provides a physical sneeze guard between the front and rear seats of the car, and are also issued with a holdall containing PPE. Drivers are notified of the name, address and phone number of the patient and the time date and location of the place of treatment. The driver phones the patient the night before the drive, confirming the time they will be picked up and due to the pandemic will ask the patient if they are displaying any of the recognised symptoms of COVID-19. At the pick up they will confirm this information and take a temperature reading of the patient using a contactless infrared forehead thermometer. The patient will travel in the back seat of the car, diagonally opposite the driver and must wear a face covering if it is safe for them to do so. On arrival at the place of treatment the driver ensures the patient has their mobile phone number to tell them when they are finished and ready to be picked up. If the course of treatment is lengthy, it may be arranged that one driver takes the patient to hospital and another conveys them home. BC4U hopes to launch service in 2022, we are keen to build a bank of volunteers in advance of launching our services.
