Outdoor Onsite Helpers, Gardeners, Handy Person Volunteers

Camphill Wellbeing Trust
Postcode: AB15 9QD
Support our exciting community Compass Project and help to transform the naturally-beautiful and historic 4.1 acre former Waldorf School site into a centre demonstrating practical solutions for healthy, sustainable lifestyles. The project has something for everyone including opportunities to find out and participate in: • sustainable building practices with conservation of the listed main building & sensitive repurposing of the others – dry-stone wall restoration, stripping back damaged plasterboard ready for refurbishment, sorting building materials and items for re-purposing and upcycling. • an integrated, creative health & education approach, supported by the natural & built environment – we offer opportunities for volunteers from secondary schools to participate in appropriate outdoor projects onsite. • sustainable social enterprise projects serving the local community and involving those with learning disabilities – experience circular economy in practice as we start to outlet local organic produce and plants onsite on a donation basis. • organic/biodynamic land use with nutritious food production, no-dig demonstration allotments, composting, beehives, wild flower meadow and woodland – keen gardeners are always welcome to come and help create a no-dig system from scratch so you never have to weed again! Experienced chain-saw operators can help manage our woodland. • repair, reuse & recycle practices minimising waste and encouraging sustainability – furniture and other items for upcycling. -Compass needs you! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to lend a hand with whatever needs doing. We hold regular volunteer days where you can enjoy meeting like-minded people working together to make a visible difference to our site after each session. Volunteers tell us it is very satisfying to see how much of a difference their work can make. Volunteers with specialised skills such as joiners, plumbers and DIY-enthusiasts will be especially welcome as we enter the next phase of our project to strip out the existing buildings ready for refurbishment. ‘Being out in the fresh air with others, seeing changes happening and feeling like I was part of a bigger process. I have also enjoyed meeting others who are enthused about the project. Sense of community, healthy activities. Very friendly co-ordinator and other helpers so feeling of welcome is lovely. I also value the fact that I only manage a couple of hours but this is still appreciated and I don't feel guilty when I feel like my body needs to stop! Beautiful grounds to work in’. – Compass volunteer ‘Such a great sense of satisfaction and wellbeing experienced at the end of 2 hours of hard physical work. This has sparked off an interest in gardening and growing plants at home. And also enjoyed being part of a community and meeting new people each time I come along who are equally enthusiastic about this project’. – Compass volunteer Everyone is welcome at Compass and we look forward to working with you onsite! You can find out more on our website: www.camphillwellbeing.org.uk/compass or email: compass@cwt.scot for further details on volunteering with this exciting project.

Volunteer Trustees

Zero Waste Aberdeen
Postcode: AB11 5YU
We are a young democratically run organisation that needs to grow. At the moment we are a small group working at projects that reduce waste and we intend that Aberdeen and Shire become zero waste areas. That is, that everything we use becomes part of a circular economy and is not discarded needlessly to be tipped or burned. Currently, our main projects are :- *Go Green Café *Trash to Treasure *Men's Sheds *Planting Fruit Trees for Community Benefit These worthy projects are undertaken alongside family and work commitments but we need to do more if we are to make inroads to the waste we generate each day. That presents exciting opportunities for volunteers. Our next step then, is for more 'Trustees' to join with us to take on an officer of the board role, or to become an ordinary member and help steer the way forward to a successful reduction of waste to zero. If you’re/for more information then please do get in touch with Brian Allan at email brianaltenscc2@gmail.com or tel.: 07751275757.

The KLSB Community Group (Keeping Larbert and Stenhousemuir Beautiful)
Postcode: FK5 4HD
We hope that everyone has been enjoying the gardens and the floral arrangements in our Stenhousemuir and Larbert communities so far. As we come into early autumn we should start to consider preparing the gardens & tubs for the spring. There is still time to do that and as such we would like to invite the community to come together and join our already established team. This is much more than volunteering in the community, this is about being part of the community. You do not have to be an experienced gardener or even have green fingers. We are simply looking for anyone who would like to come out on any day that suits them and work with our team. You will have a say on what goes in the ground, what and where our planters are placed and much more importantly, you will get to meet new people and make friends at our monthly meetings.

Clachworks also welcomes applications from people with additional capacity who may like to be more fully involved in the project. Time commitment is a big question for most people when thinking about joining a board of directors. KLSB Community Volunteer (Larbert, Stenhousemuir and surrounding areas)

The KLSB Community Group (Keeping Larbert and Stenhousemuir Beautiful)
Postcode: FK5 4HD
The KLSB Community Group was formed in 2018 after it was identified that there was a need for a local group in the area to help tackle issues including food insecurities, social welfare, support and general community wellbeing. We started as a small litter picking group where we gained support from local residents, groups and businesses. Since those early days we have now become a registered Scottish charity who operate a food pantry, a support hub and we are also in the process of bringing a large community garden to the area. We continue to work in the community by bringing colour to our public gardens as well as our micro gardens which can be found throughout our area. Poverty affects millions of people in the UK. Poverty means not being able to heat your home, pay your rent, or buy the essentials for your children. It means waking up every day facing insecurity, uncertainty, and impossible decisions about money. It means facing marginalisation - and even discrimination - because of your financial circumstances. The constant stress it causes can lead to problems that deprive people of the chance to play a full part in society. We operate a community food pantry in King Street, Stenhousemuir where Falkirk residents can join, and be entitled to a weekly shopping at a much reduced cost. We also operate a food bank where we take referrals from local authorities and groups such as church groups, councillors, doctors, schools, Support for People, Self-Isolation Support & Social Workers. We provide this range of services with help from many local volunteers and we offer you the chance to join us, we are an enthusiastic and welcoming team who work together to make a positive impact on our community, volunteer tasks include: - planting and maintaining local green spaces, including our flowering planters - helping out at the Food Pantry by serving pantry users, organising and sorting food items, keeping the area clean and tidy - helping out at events or at our Community Hub where our other community groups are welcomed to host their own meetings and get-togethers, free of charge

Beach Clean Volunteers

FAB-Friends of Aberdeen Beach
Postcode: AB24 5NR
Friends of Aberdeen Beach (a.k.a FAB) is a community group committed to maintaining and improving the quality of seaside between the mouth of the rivers Dee and Don. We, at Friends of Aberdeen Beach, do regular litter picks on the city’s beach. It’s an opportunity to get out and about in the fresh air, meet new people and do your bit for our community. Removing litter not only makes the beach look nicer but it also helps protect the wildlife off Aberdeen’s coast (like the dolphins, seals and seabirds) and keeps beach users and dogs safe from rubbish that’s been washed up. We liaise with Aberdeen City Council who assist us with our clean ups, provide equipment to us and install and maintain local facilities (bins, public toilets, information signs etc.). A fantastic, enjoyable opportunity to help and make a positive difference to Aberdeen’s wonderful beach. For further details please contact: Heather Lyons (Chairperson) at email: friendlybeachaberdeen@gmail.com or heather-lyons@hotmail.co.uk and also our facebook page and website at: http://www.friends-of-aberdeen-beach.co.uk/ and https://www.facebook.com/groups/1734153026833610/

Shorewatch Volunteer

Whale and Dolphin Conservation (Shetland)
Postcode: ZE1 0JP
The Shorewatch citizen science project is a network of volunteers trained and supported by WDC to carry out regular 10-minute surveys from Shorewatch sites across Scotland. We know that Scotland is home to a number of whale and dolphin species, yet there are still so many unanswered questions about where they breed, feed and travel. We believe it is important to keep eyes on the sea so we can better understand these amazing creatures to better protect them. To become a Shorewatch volunteer, you will attend a full day training session where you will learn how to identify different species of cetacean, and how to carry out a 10-minute Shorewatch. You’ll then be fully supported by our Northern Isles Policy Officer in carrying out your first few watches from one of our selected sites – in Shetland these are Mousa Sound, Eshaness Lighthouse, Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, Lerwick (the Knab), Belmont (Unst) and South Nesting Bay. All of the equipment you need to carry out the 10-minute survey will be accessible at each site. Understanding the movements of whales, dolphins and porpoises will allow us to comprehend how our behaviours affect them. We can use the data we gather to influence policy makers and advise developers to ensure better protection for whales and dolphins. Shorewatch relies on our amazing community volunteers to collect this vital data.
