Tea Party Driver

Re-engage (Aberdeen and North of Scotland)
Postcode: AB31 4EH
Our tea party drivers are a vital part of the Re-engage team. Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Drivers take older people to the parties and stay with them to enjoy the get-together. Over time, drivers and older guests get to know each other well and together you will spend many hours full of fun, laughter, and stories. As a tea party driver, you liaise with your group coordinator and take older guests to and from the tea parties each month. Staying at the tea party is part of your role, so it’s much more than being a driver. You will need to have a full, clean, driving license, and either a DBS (in England and Wales) or PVG (in Scotland). You will also need to check that you are covered by your regular motor insurance policy to do this role. Tasks include: Driving one to two older guests using your own car to a tea party venue and returning them home again after the event . Staying at the tea party to help with conversation and serve refreshments. Liaising with the group coordinator to confirm which older guests you will pick up. Informing the group coordinator of any safeguarding concerns or issues you might have. Following all guidance in your driver training modules to ensure that the tea parties are enjoyable, appropriate, and in line with our charitable aims. Completing a driver declaration before your first tea party and on an annual basis. The declaration is to confirm you will adhere to Re-engage's policies and procedures and that you have completed the relevant training provided for your role. https://www.reengage.org.uk/

Charity Trustees

Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR)
Postcode: AB25 1BT
Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR) was granted Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) charitable status in March this year. We are now looking to find talented, passionate and skilled people to fill some vacant seats on our Board of Trustees to help us grow and develop our innovative and solution focused new charity. This is a unique opportunity to help lay the foundations to ensure AiR has a long-term future as a charity with solid processes in place to ensure it meets its mission of: “To be a bridge from ‘dependence’ to ‘independence’ for the individual seeking to recover from problematic substance use and addictive behaviours”. This is such an exciting and invigorating prospect for individuals to get involved and be participant in the tsunami of change which is now gaining momentum and being driven by “Experts by Experience” and the vibrant Lived Experienced Communities which are blossoming, not only locally but are now established as a national phenomena. Since its conception, AiR and its members have worked tirelessly to establish and build collaborative relationships with professional services and third sector support agencies. We have consistently driven the message that individuals who have personal lived/living experience of active substance use, including Family members who have been affected by the addictive behaviours of a loved one, and the Recovery Communities they represent have something valid, essential and extremely beneficial to bring to described Recovery Orientated Systems of Care (ROSC). We can provide existing services and clinical structural systems with resources, skills and capabilities that they, no matter how much effort, time and money they invest, will never be able to offer or provide. So, it gives the greatest of pleasure to see this is now recognised on the highest levels that “Recoverists” can productively contribute to the design, development and delivery of truly person-centred ROSC. This being evidenced by the vision, philosophy and content of the Scottish Governments “Rights, Respect and Recovery” Drug and Alcohol Strategy. We also believe it is reaffirmed by the recent success in being granted funding from the Government’s National Development Fund, with our principle partner Alcohol and Drugs Action (ADA), for our ‘Recovery Peer Pathway’ joint two-year project. This collaborative venture will build on three years of pilot work to further establish and build proactive and productive Developmental Pathways within ADA and their Volunteer network while in synergy with AiR membership for individuals who desire to initiate change in their behaviours and outlook as they progress on their recovery journeys within, and imperatively out-with, statutory and formal support services. We believe that the blue sky thinking behind this project categorically and emphatically fits with the expectations, outcomes and concepts of the above Government policy. So, if you have lived experience, or a stakeholder interest, and a passion for recovery and are willing to give of yourself that another may learn, you will not find a better opportunity to indulge your appetite than from within Aberdeen in Recovery. For more information please contact Dermot Craig, Recovery Community Development Manager at E Mail: dermot@aberdeeninrecovery.org or tel.: 01224 638342 / Mobile: 07751 213108.

Our tea party hosts are a vital part of the Re-engage team. Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Re-engage needs enthusiastic volunteers to work as tea party hosts. This is a flexible, voluntary role that can easily be fitted in around your own lifestyle and availability. As a volunteer host you will run a local Re-engage tea party one to two times a year. You will host a group of four to 12 people (which includes drivers, the group coordinator as well as older guests) in either your home or a community venue. The tea parties will last around two hours and will usually take place on a Sunday afternoon. You must be comfortable socialising with people and providing guests and other volunteers with refreshments. You will need two references and to complete an ID check for this role. Tasks include: Completing and submitting a host’s home checklist for your own home or signing a declaration if you’re hosting at an external venue before your first tea party and on an annual basis. Welcoming a group of older guests and volunteer drivers into your home or to the community venue. Providing and serving refreshments for your group – usually food and drinks for afternoon tea. Liaising with your group coordinator to ensure dietary requirements and the older guests' needs are met prior to the tea party. Informing the group coordinator of any safeguarding concerns or issues you might have. Following all guidance in your host training modules to ensure that the tea parties are enjoyable, appropriate, and in line with our charitable aims. https://www.reengage.org.uk/

Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Tea Party group Coordinator

Re-engage (Aberdeen and North of Scotland)
Postcode: DD10 0BT
Our tea party group coordinators are a vital part of the Re-engage team. Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Over time, the members of the group will get to know each other well and together you will spend many hours full of fun, laughter, and stories. As a tea party group coordinator, you will ensure older guests know when and where the next tea party will be held and who will be collecting them each month. This is an administrative role that requires planning and scheduling, you must be comfortable organising monthly events with volunteer hosts, socialising, communicating with people and resolving issues that might arise. You will need a DBS (England and Wales) or PVG (Scotland) for this role. Sometimes, tea party group coordinators are also drivers or hosts for their group, but this is not a requirement of being a coordinator. Tasks include: Welcoming new volunteers and ensuring they have the right checks in place. Checking ID documents for a DBS (England) or PVG (Scotland) when required. Moray Reach Out
Postcode: AB56 1ET
Moray Reach Out is a charity that runs several social enterprises that provide work and training opportunities to vulnerable adults throughout Moray. We are looking for volunteers to help support our vulnerable adults through our projects. Moray Reach Out's Upcycling Project takes discarded wooden pallets from local business and turns them into saleable house and garden items. Pallets are taken apart, the planks sanded, measured, sawn and made up into decorative boxes, shelving and planters for the garden. All carried out using hand tools, suitable for varying skills and ability. To volunteer for this project, it would be preferred if you have basic DIY skills, so these can be transferred to help our vulnerable adults. These would include using a handsaw, hammering nails, and using simple power tools such as cordless drills and sanders. Most importantly, volunteers need to have patience, kindness and empathy. Please bring your own overalls if you can!

They may be on a particular climate theme or may be general climate change awareness raising events. In the past GK have delivered climate cafes, film screenings, staycation pop-up events and attended family fun days. Climate Champion volunteers help them to design and deliver these events. They would also like you to help deliver their climate change training sessions to community groups. Events and training take place in-person and online. You do not need to be a climate expert – training will be provided to get you up to speed. A little understanding of how individual choices can impact global warming would be helpful (e.g. driving/flying less, reusing, buying local etc).

ReBOOT has been going strong as a social enterprise since 1997 – and offers a complete computer recycling service that has been massively reducing the environmental impact of waste electronics in Moray, by reusing and recycling donated technology. Refurbished computers and other devices are also donated back to people or community groups who may struggle to afford a device or sold to the community at affordable prices in our shop. We are also now producing some nifty creative products with our plastics recycling, too. Volunteers are at the core of our success and now, we are looking for 4-5 new people to join our team. You don’t need a background in computers to volunteer all we ask is that you are able to give a minimum 4-hour time commitment during ReBOOT’s hours of operation. This can be any day or days, Monday to Thursday, 9.30- 3.30pm. Initially we’d like you to volunteer on a regular basis, so you can see what’s involved and find a role that’s right for you. Anything that is not reused or rebuilt is recycled, so the type of activities you'd be undertaking whilst volunteering can include: Testing hardware, refurbishing devices or sorting and stripping devices into recyclable components Assist in the loading/unloading and packaging of pallet shipments in the warehouse Help keep an asset log up to date Joining the crew on the van to pick up donations Driving the Van ( Over 25’s only ) What We Can Offer You: We are a friendly bunch – we want our volunteers to make connections, make friends and know that what they do and the time they give, really matters. We offer a full induction and further training opportunities if desired. Learn about the recycling industry and social enterprises. Gain skills, experience and enjoy it while you do it. Help reduce waste and help the planet! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact: info@reboot-forres.co.uk

If you want to give back to your community this is a great way to do it. The Moray Firth Credit Union is seeking people who are interested in the exciting opportunity to serve on their Board. Some longstanding Board members shielded and subsequently retired during ‘lockdown’ in March 2020. The Credit Union has a long history of serving the local community. Today, the main office of the ‘Savings & Loans Co-operative’ is located at 53 High Street Forres, though plans are in the works to to expand and set up ‘satellite’ collection points in other places in Moray as this social enterprise develops. During COVID, the Credit union has remained open for business to support those people who use the credit union as thier bank and have hosted 'zooms' every fortnight with current Board members to keep abreast of new developments. If you have an interest in people, community or even if you want to learn more about the unique role a credit union plays in the lives of the people and communities they serve, (and have some spare time) the Moray Firth Credit Union would be delighted to hear from you. Consideration should be given to your future plans such as holidays abroad. “It’s so rewarding to know that the dog will go on to help people with sight loss gain independence and freedom.” – Chris, Puppy Raiser We rely on volunteers like you to help us improve the lives of people with sight loss. In this role your support will include: • Developing, caring and providing for the needs of one of our puppies using Positive Reinforcement Techniques and following Guide Dogs Puppy Raising for Excellent Partnerships (PREP) programme • Familiarising a puppy to a wide range of environments including shops and outdoor off lead exercise areas in all climates and seasons. • Teaching a puppy it’s ok to be left alone by gradually building up from a few minutes to a maximum of 4 hours • Attending regular puppy classes • Regularly meeting with Guide Dogs representatives to discuss your pup’s development • Completing regular on-line questionnaires to help us monitor puppy progress Ideally you will: • Be able to handle large breed dogs (around 25-40kg) • Have access to a car on a weekly basis for training and vet visits • Have your own home or written permission to have a dog in the home • Have access to a secure area where the puppy could go to the toilet during the day, especially first thing in the morning and last thing at night • Be able to access online content and training materials (you will need your own email address) If you don’t feel you tick every box but are sure this role is the one for you, please drop us a message and tell us why. We’re open to suggestions and happy to chat with you to find out what’s possible! Volunteering is a two-way street, so in return for your time you will get; • A dedicated volunteer manager/key contact who will help you settle in and support you during your time with us. • The challenge and reward of seeing a puppy develop in your home. • The opportunity to learn and develop your understanding in dog body language, learning theory, the human animal bond and the life of a Guide Dog. Volunteering for Guide Dogs should never leave you out of pocket. We’ll make sure we pay any expenses related to your volunteering with us in line with our policy. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the role further before applying please email volunteer coordinator Aaron Puckrin at aaron.puckrin@guidedogs.org.uk. Thank you.

Food & Fun Volunteers

Aberdeen City Council Food & Fun Programme
Postcode: AB10 1AB
Food and Fun was introduced by the Council as a pilot to deliver free meals and activities to children in key areas of Aberdeen during school holiday periods and has been rolled out on a permanent basis. Over Christmas, as an extension of the project, special events were hosted for young people to enjoy the festivities – from ice skating and crafts to a disco and visit to Santa. For everyone involved in Food and Fun there’s a busy period ahead. The main aim is to ensure children continue to be fed, recognising the importance of school meals during term time for a large number of families, and also to provide the opportunity to take part in physical activity in a nurturing environment. The initiative has been recognised with awards – but the reward and motivation for the many people who have put their heart and soul into developing the programme is in the positive impact there is on children, families and communities. When we talk about our purpose – about caring for our city and our people – we think Food and Fun is a shining example that we can all be incredibly proud of. Many participants obtain great life skills which has assisted them in securing other opportunities as well as the personal development and satisfaction that this also brings. All help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. To volunteer / for more information please contact Martin Smith, Locality Inclusion Manager at E Mail: martinsmith@aberdeencity.gov.uk or Tel.: 01224 788538.

Support Volunteers

Peace of Mind (Fife)
Postcode: KY1 3DT
They are looking for Support Volunteers to assist and support their participants with the activities they want to get involved in. This could be going with them to the local swimming baths; attending a local football match; taking part in local interest groups such as arts & crafts, music, wellbeing, or just having a blether. They are creating community groups across Fife which will provide individuals who need that wee bit of support to access opportunities that they are interested in and want to get involved with. They want to create an environment to share similar interests, ideas, skills, memories and for participants to take ownership of what they create. By doing this they will ensure that social exclusion and loneliness does not have an effect on their participants and that they are in control of their lives. Support Volunteers can assist participants with their interests and introduce activities and ideas, as well as provide some much-needed support. They will follow covid-19 guidance and volunteers and participants safety is their number one priority. Employment opportunities could also be offered in the future. If you want to join them please take a look at www.peaceofmind.scot to find out more.

Pushing up the Daisies
Postcode: IV30 1BU
Pushing up the Daisies is a pioneering charity in Scotland, providing information and support to the newly bereaved during the period between a death and a funeral, the advancement of education in care of bodies at home after death and the advancement of health related to grief. We are especially here to support anyone who instinctively wants to keep the body of their loved one at home (or bring them back home) after their death. In November 2021 we started to take steps towards setting up a service to empower and practically assist people who want to keep someone close in the days after their last breath and be involved in the arrangements. This is aimed to be instead of or alongside funeral directors. We want to develop this aspect of the charity as a service and also as a source of income. We are now in a position to expand the Board of Trustees to strengthen and expand the charity and particularly to develop the service aspect of the charity in a business-like way. The current charity trustees are passionate about the work of the charity. We want to balance this with supportive business expertise. We are also looking to balance people with the inspiration and time to be hands-on in our development and people experienced to take an overview in the development and governance. If you are interested, please contact kate@pushingupthedaisies.org.uk to arrange a meeting in-person/online to discuss and answer any questions you have.
