DD8 Music
Postcode: DD11 1RN
DD8 music is thrilled to be looking for volunteers to involve in running our Discovery Project where young people will learn the fundamentals of DJing from the basics of rhythm and timing; to using filters, effects, scratching and looping. Effectively structuring a mix teaches young people to create and follow a plan, improve their timekeeping skills and problem solving; whilst thinking critically and creatively to enhance skills and technical repertoire. The programme will give the young people a core knowledge of the musical theory such as key changes, waveforms, and BPM and the ability to implement this into their mixes. Sessions are a combination of theory and practical lessons; the theory aspect of the sessions include presentations, games, and group work. DD8 Music are looking for volunteers close to Arbroath for a couple of projects # DJ Discovery project running on a Tuesday evening 5.30-7.30pm in central Arbroath. There will be plenty of opportunity to help run a fun DJ workshop with our trained staff, learn about how to transport and set up music equipment, get experience teaching basic skills and working with people from a variety of backgrounds. # DJ Discovery will also be looking for volunteers for a Tuesday or Thursday working in Arbroath High. Times and days are to be confirmed however with more of a focus on working with young people! If you're at all interested in volunteering with us either for the DJ discovery project, or any other projects get in touch via their social media, or drop an email to alaric@dd8music.com. This volunteering role will involve a healthy mixture of helping to move music equipment and instruments to our group activity locations, setting up the rooms in preparation of the activities, and tidying up/taking equipment and instruments back, as well as helping during sessions. Whilst the groups are in session, this role will allow you to supervise and give advice, encouragement, and support to the young people as well as the opportunity to build a rapport with them whilst our staff deliver their session plans. Sessions can either take a more structured, or free form style, so this role will be perfect for you not only if you crave structure, but also if you prefer a more easy-going environment with more space for spontaneous creativity. This role would be a great opportunity either if you already have some musical ability and knowledge that you want to use, grow, or improve or if you want to help kick start your musical interests through helping others! This role is not only perfect for those with musical interests, as there’s lots of exciting ways of getting involved which can be tailored around you, and your interests and we have plenty of other roles besides! Key Duties: · Helping transport, unpack and set up musical equipment · Supervising and supporting young people in trying out instruments and practicing · Helping tidy and take away equipment after sessions are over · Helping staff deliver the session plan · Engaging and supervising young people and adults during sessions

Postcode: AB11 5YU
We are a non-profit-making-volunteer run Arts Collective and charity providing a platform both online and offline for those who struggle with mental health, addiction, gender dysphoria, sexuality, feel like they don't quite 'fit', or feel estranged to this world. We encourage people to express themselves through art as catharsis. Combining Art & Catharsis, we believe in being CathARTic! We believe the arts are a great elixir and creativity is our currency. Our ethos is based on 'pay it forward' exchanging the arts for positive and encouraging feedback from our team of art enthused volunteers and encouraging our members also to create a ripple effect. The arts is an area where we are all free to express ourselves , be liberated in a way that we can't in our usual regimented , institutionalised world. It's a place where we don't have to colour within the lines, but we can go over the edges and...well...who knows where that might lead.... We see the arts as emancipation and an area where we can all be unified by transmitting and sharing expression, unified by love, the arts and expression. We know that expressing ourselves through Creativity makes us all feel great and empowered! Fledgling Arts Collective Central believe that there are no 'amateurs' in the Arts & Creativity- WE ARE ALL ARTISTS ; and that the feel good ethos we encourage can really help with issues like building self esteem and helping to lift depression for instance. We are currently recruiting new online support volunteers to support our vital work. Your role will include interacting with online members giving feedback on the creative arts posts they leave in a positive constructive way. Having a creative, positive and constructive approach will be required. Mentoring will be provided. Spread your wings and come fly with us. A fantastic opportunity to help volunteering-all help makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated. Food & Fun Volunteers

Aberdeen City Council Food & Fun Programme
Postcode: AB10 1AB
Food and Fun was introduced by the Council as a pilot to deliver free meals and activities to children in key areas of Aberdeen during school holiday periods and has been rolled out on a permanent basis. Over Christmas, as an extension of the project, special events were hosted for young people to enjoy the festivities – from ice skating and crafts to a disco and visit to Santa. For everyone involved in Food and Fun there’s a busy period ahead. The main aim is to ensure children continue to be fed, recognising the importance of school meals during term time for a large number of families, and also to provide the opportunity to take part in physical activity in a nurturing environment. The initiative has been recognised with awards – but the reward and motivation for the many people who have put their heart and soul into developing the programme is in the positive impact there is on children, families and communities. When we talk about our purpose – about caring for our city and our people – we think Food and Fun is a shining example that we can all be incredibly proud of. Many participants obtain great life skills which has assisted them in securing other opportunities as well as the personal development and satisfaction that this also brings. All help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. To volunteer / for more information please contact Martin Smith, Locality Inclusion Manager at E Mail: martinsmith@aberdeencity.gov.uk or Tel.: 01224 788538.

Grampian Hospital Radio Volunteers

Grampian Hospital Radio
Postcode: AB25 2ZN
Grampian Hospital Radio (GHR) provides a dedicated broadcasting service to patients in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Roxburghe House. You can listen via the bedside entertainment consoles or via our free Grampian Hospital Radio App or on our website at www.grampianhospitalradio.org/listen GHR volunteers bring a bit of cheer into the lives of patients through our therapeutic hospital radio service. Volunteers undertake tasks such as collect requests around the wards, present programmes, fundraise and help with our music library database. Feedback from volunteers include: ‘I volunteer on Grampian Hospital Radio because I wanted to do something worthwhile after retiring from my job as a sports journalist in 2017 and get a lot of enjoyment out of hosting the Breakfast Show, although the patients may not feel the same when they hear my jokes of the day! Volunteering for GHR is fun and it’s humbling to see so many of our team have been involved for decades, all for the sake of offering some light entertainment to patients during a difficult period in their lives.’ (Charlie Allan, Breakfast Show Presenter, Mon-Fri 0700-0900hrs, Grampian Hospital Radio) ‘I volunteer for GHR because as a music request collector I am the face of the Grampian Hospital Radio and I have the privilege of meeting patients and their families in the wards. I get great satisfaction in getting a request as the musical tastes can be so varied and interesting and even broadening my music knowledge too. It is so satisfying to see how patients engage in providing a music request as it is a distraction to being in hospital and hearing their request played on our nightly Request Show.’ (Denise Angus, Request Co-ordinator, Grampian Hospital Radio) ‘It gives me the chance to both showcase my passion for the UK charts and, more importantly, to give patients the chance to relive their happiest memories.’ (Nicholas Jackson, Retro Chart Show Presenter, Sunday 1100-1300hrs) ‘It can be difficult for friends and family to visit, particularly if home is quite a distance away from Aberdeen. If tuning in to us as the local station helps things feel a little better for even a short spell, that’s something positive.’ (Brenda Massie, Request Show Presenter Saturday 1900-2100hrs) Grampian Hospital Radio (GHR) is a registered Scottish Charity. GHR is a member of the national Hospital Broadcasting Association. A fantastic opportunity to make a difference in our local hospitals. All volunteers are greatly appreciated.
