Board Members/Trustees for Maryhill charity

Maryhill Burgh Hall Trust
Postcode: G20 8YE
Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust is a community-led organisation, established in 2004 by local people, to rescue the semi-derelict historic building from proposed demolition. The regeneration project dramatically re-purposed the landmark building and, since re-opening in 2012, the multi-functional Halls are back into the heart of the Maryhill community. The board of directors are looking for new members who may be local or otherwise and have an interest in the Maryhill community. It would be particularly valuable to have new local members with Fundraising, Legal, Marketing & Comms expertise. Although we are primarily looking for experience in these areas, we welcome interest from all backgrounds and experience. Working to a social enterprise model, the Halls generates a level of self-funding through office rental and event space hire. The halls also contain as a tenancy a nursery and two recording studios. As part of our community engagement and our aims we have a small exhibition/museum space and the main hall and other areas are available for short hires for events, functions, conferences as well as hosting a variety of community events. We have refurbished the onsite café which we will soon be operating as both a community amenity and eventually a skills training facility. There is much being done and still more that we can do and we would like energetic and committed people to join us on the board to help drive it forward. The board of Maryhill Burgh Halls trust would like to hear from individuals who can spare a few hours per month. It would be advantageous, but not essential, if you live or work in the local area (G20, G23, G12 postcodes). It is not an essential requirement, but we are particularly looking for experience of: - Legal - Finance - Property management. Formal, early-evening board meetings are held every 2 months, with various ad-hoc and topical sub-committees meeting in between. Board meetings will preferably be held in person. Please note that this post is voluntary, although any necessary expenses related to your duties as a trustee will be paid. You can see our website at https://www.maryhillburghhalls.org.uk/. If you're interested, please click the 'apply' button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn't work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on info@volunteerglasgow.org.

Fledgling Arts Collective Central-Online Volunteer Support

Fledgling Arts Collective Central (Aberdeen)
Postcode: AB11 5YU
We are a non-profit-making-volunteer run Arts Collective and charity providing a platform both online and offline for those who struggle with mental health, addiction, gender dysphoria, sexuality, feel like they don't quite 'fit', or feel estranged to this world. We encourage people to express themselves through art as catharsis. Combining Art & Catharsis, we believe in being CathARTic! We believe the arts are a great elixir and creativity is our currency. Our ethos is based on 'pay it forward' exchanging the arts for positive and encouraging feedback from our team of art enthused volunteers and encouraging our members also to create a ripple effect. The arts is an area where we are all free to express ourselves , be liberated in a way that we can't in our usual regimented , institutionalised world. It's a place where we don't have to colour within the lines, but we can go over the edges and...well...who knows where that might lead.... We see the arts as emancipation and an area where we can all be unified by transmitting and sharing expression, unified by love, the arts and expression. We know that expressing ourselves through Creativity makes us all feel great and empowered! Fledgling Arts Collective Central believe that there are no 'amateurs' in the Arts & Creativity- WE ARE ALL ARTISTS ; and that the feel good ethos we encourage can really help with issues like building self esteem and helping to lift depression for instance. We are currently recruiting new online support volunteers to support our vital work. Your role will include interacting with online members giving feedback on the creative arts posts they leave in a positive constructive way. Having a creative, positive and constructive approach will be required. Mentoring will be provided. Spread your wings and come fly with us. A fantastic opportunity to help volunteering-all help makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated. Knitted squares

The Archie Foundation has had a donation of little knitted squares and are looking for volunteers to sew or crochet them up into baby blankets. The blankets will be then be put in ‘Welcome to the World’ bags and given to babies born in Tayside. Knitted Toys Baby toys are also hugely appreciated by the families and staff at the maternity hospitals we support. We always welcome knitted toys that may be dolls, elephants, bears, frogs – you name it, we will find it a loving home. Please see the ARCHIE Foundation web page for information and rules on stuffing, eyes etc on toys. Worry Monsters Our worry monsters offer great support to children who are facing medical issues or bereavement. They can be a great tool to help children express themselves. A child will write down their worries, then they feed them into the deep mouth of the monster and their worries are then all eaten up. The best thing about Worry Monsters is that they can come in many different shapes and sizes, just like us! If you would like the worry monster pattern, please get in touch with us at hello@archie.org

Big Noise Torry Volunteers

Big Noise Torry (Aberdeen)
Postcode: AB11 8DL
We believe every child and young person deserves the same opportunity to succeed and so we provide free, immersive, instrumental music tuition to pupils and pre-school children. This leads to an enhanced ability to learn in school, improvements in emotional wellbeing, confidence and esteem, as well as the acquisition of a range of social and life skills. To achieve this, volunteers are vital for our Big Noise Centre in Torry. As a Big Noise volunteer, you'll be helping us transform children's lives through music. You don't need to have any musical experience, just a passion for making a difference to the lives of young people. Volunteers help in a variety of valuable ways, including: • Helping children stay focused and engaged during music lessons • Walk children from school to the Big Noise Centre • Helping set up for rehearsals and music lessons and assisting the children and young people to play their instruments if required • Supervise children during snack times, breaks, time-out etc. • and much more... You can become a positive role model in children’s lives and someone they look forward to spending time with. You will benefit from this by receiving training, developing skills in communication and gaining experience of working with children and young people. Big Noise Torry/Sistema Scotland have also achieved the Investing in Volunteers Award-a national quality standard for good practice in involving volunteers as part of our commitment to volunteering and providing excellent support to volunteers. Grampian Hospital Radio Volunteers

Grampian Hospital Radio
Postcode: AB25 2ZN
Grampian Hospital Radio (GHR) provides a dedicated broadcasting service to patients in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Roxburghe House. You can listen via the bedside entertainment consoles or via our free Grampian Hospital Radio App or on our website at www.grampianhospitalradio.org/listen GHR volunteers bring a bit of cheer into the lives of patients through our therapeutic hospital radio service. Volunteers undertake tasks such as collect requests around the wards, present programmes, fundraise and help with our music library database. Feedback from volunteers include: ‘I volunteer on Grampian Hospital Radio because I wanted to do something worthwhile after retiring from my job as a sports journalist in 2017 and get a lot of enjoyment out of hosting the Breakfast Show, although the patients may not feel the same when they hear my jokes of the day! Volunteering for GHR is fun and it’s humbling to see so many of our team have been involved for decades, all for the sake of offering some light entertainment to patients during a difficult period in their lives.’ (Charlie Allan, Breakfast Show Presenter, Mon-Fri 0700-0900hrs, Grampian Hospital Radio) ‘I volunteer for GHR because as a music request collector I am the face of the Grampian Hospital Radio and I have the privilege of meeting patients and their families in the wards. I get great satisfaction in getting a request as the musical tastes can be so varied and interesting and even broadening my music knowledge too. It is so satisfying to see how patients engage in providing a music request as it is a distraction to being in hospital and hearing their request played on our nightly Request Show.’ (Denise Angus, Request Co-ordinator, Grampian Hospital Radio) ‘It gives me the chance to both showcase my passion for the UK charts and, more importantly, to give patients the chance to relive their happiest memories.’ (Nicholas Jackson, Retro Chart Show Presenter, Sunday 1100-1300hrs) ‘It can be difficult for friends and family to visit, particularly if home is quite a distance away from Aberdeen. If tuning in to us as the local station helps things feel a little better for even a short spell, that’s something positive.’ (Brenda Massie, Request Show Presenter Saturday 1900-2100hrs) Grampian Hospital Radio (GHR) is a registered Scottish Charity. GHR is a member of the national Hospital Broadcasting Association. A fantastic opportunity to make a difference in our local hospitals. All volunteers are greatly appreciated. No matter how good our services are, we can't properly support our community well if we don't have good Support people in the team. If this sounds like you?... we would love you to consider volunteering with us for a few hours per week. Our Sheltered Housing is a group of 70 properties split between two complexes for older people and people with additional support needs and physical disabilities, to enable them to live independently for as long as possible within their own homes. We are looking for people who are keen to donate some of their time to arrange and plan activities for our residents in our communal space. Activities could include setting up a knitting group, arts and crafts, games nights or even a social evening where everyone is invited to come along and have a chat with each other which will help combat social isolation and improve wellbeing. Some activities work well and some not so well the challenge is to find out which activities our residents like the best.

Postcode: KW17 2HH
Care home staff do an amazing job but often they just don’t have the hours in the day to spend regular one-to-one time with residents or to find ways to connect the care home with its local community. That’s where you come in. Our Activities Volunteers help us create a fun and stimulating environment for our residents. Sharing your hobbies, skills and time could significantly brighten an older person’s day, helping them to feel more excited by life and connected to the world around them. Smiddybrae is a residential care home in the village of Dounby that provides a service to up to 32 older residents. You might be able to offer an hour a week or an hour a month. The role is flexible and does not require a fixed commitment. Activities can include physical, social and leisure activities that are ideally tailored to the residents’ interests. This could range from a bit of pampering with hair styling or nail painting, to leisure activities such as reading, gardening, arts and crafts, conversation, and singing. Volunteers will be matched with activities and residents, so everyone feels comfortable and enjoys themselves. Key activities • One to one activities with residents tailored to both your own interests and the residents. • Supporting group activities What could a volunteer gain from the experience? The satisfaction of making a real difference to the quality of life of residents. A sociable environment that will be very people focussed. An opportunity to gain experience in a social care setting. Get to meet new people and develop friendships with a varied group of new people, from residents to staff and other volunteers. Help keep Smiddybrae an integral part of your community. RSVP Knitting Group Volunteer Organiser

Volunteering Matters: Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP)
Postcode: AB10 1AB
Volunteering Matters, the UK’s largest volunteering charity, believe that everyone in the UK should have the opportunity to thrive. We bring people together to overcome some of society’s most complex issues through the power of volunteering. Our Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) encourages those aged 50+ to volunteer and be active in their communities. RSVP projects can take many forms, from school support, to driving schemes, all having an incredible impact both on the wider community, and our volunteers. In Aberdeen, we are looking for a passionate, friendly individual to re-establish RSVP knitting groups in the Aberdeen area as a Group Volunteer Organiser. As our RSVP Knitting Group Volunteer Organiser, you will engage other adults aged 50+ in the local community who enjoy knitting, bring them together as knitting volunteers, but also providing a social forum for the knitters to chat and spark friendships. Activity will also happen in between, with knitters completing items at home too. In addition to setting up groups and arranging for them to come together (if they would like to), the Organiser will collect items created, and ensure they are donated to local organisations that can benefit from them. Previously, this has included clothes for the local neonatal unit, trauma teddies, and others. This will involve networking in the Aberdeen area to establish relationships with organisations and agree how donations will work. You don’t have to be an avid knitter yourself, this role is more to organise knitting activity, and be the point of contact for knitters and partners in the local area. However, if you would like to be involved in the knitting activity, that would be most welcome. *Tasks involved: - Engaging with keen knitters in the local area to form groups, and on-going contact with knitters - Promoting knitting opportunities/encouraging wider involvement via local press, social media etc. - Working with organisations to create partnerships for the knitting to be donated to - Ensuring quality control of items - Applying for small grants/funding/some fundraising activity would be beneficial - Gathering items from knitters and arranging collection/delivery - Ensuring social opportunities for knitters to come together (if they wish to) - Inputting to the wider RSVP network as and when appropriate *You will be: - Honest, reliable, and friendly volunteer aged 50+ - Regular commitment - An interest in networking/building relationships - Good communication, organisational, and people skills - Ability to volunteer independently, taking initiative to grow the groups, with minimum support - Able to lift/move bags of knitting donations and transport them – being a driver would be useful *We will provide: - A fun, enjoyable and worthwhile voluntary experience - Sense of achievement - Relevant training and support - All travel expenses - Relevant insurance for activities - Opportunity to engage with the wider RSVP and Volunteering Matters Network A fantastic opportunity to help and make a real difference for people and the community. Food & Fun Volunteers

Aberdeen City Council Food & Fun Programme
Postcode: AB10 1AB
Food and Fun was introduced by the Council as a pilot to deliver free meals and activities to children in key areas of Aberdeen during school holiday periods and has been rolled out on a permanent basis. Over Christmas, as an extension of the project, special events were hosted for young people to enjoy the festivities – from ice skating and crafts to a disco and visit to Santa. For everyone involved in Food and Fun there’s a busy period ahead. The main aim is to ensure children continue to be fed, recognising the importance of school meals during term time for a large number of families, and also to provide the opportunity to take part in physical activity in a nurturing environment. The initiative has been recognised with awards – but the reward and motivation for the many people who have put their heart and soul into developing the programme is in the positive impact there is on children, families and communities. When we talk about our purpose – about caring for our city and our people – we think Food and Fun is a shining example that we can all be incredibly proud of. Many participants obtain great life skills which has assisted them in securing other opportunities as well as the personal development and satisfaction that this also brings. All help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. To volunteer / for more information please contact Martin Smith, Locality Inclusion Manager at E Mail: martinsmith@aberdeencity.gov.uk or Tel.: 01224 788538.
