Ask ACCESS Connector

  • West Dunbartonshire CVS

You never know when you or someone you know may need help and support. Whether through lack of digital access, age or disability, not knowing where to turn for the help you need can become a frustration or struggle; having access to the right information, from a trusted source at the right time could make all the difference. Ask ACCESS is a one-call helpline service, taking time to listen to what you need and directing you or referring you to the person you need to talk to. Or if you just aren't sure how to find out about something, like what bus takes you to the what hospital ,Ask ACCESS is here to help...and we need volunteers like you to help us run the service Monday to Friday. The role is quite simple but so important. You will answer telephone calls to the Ask ACCESS helpline, lending a supportive ear to our callers and then using our support database, provide the answers, information and signposting needed. You will be asked to complete a contact record for each call and keep track of any issues which are a bit challenging or where we need to do more homework! You will have a staff member around to check-in with if you are a bit lost or feel a little concerned about a request. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have brought re-assurance, care and support to people who needed your help. If you are looking to volunteer as part of your job-search, you will gain great telephone and call handling skills. You will understand that for everyone safety you will be asked to go through a PVG (police) check. WDCVS VISA employability scheme is where volunteers who are actively looking for work can brush up on the skills that employers are looking for, the VISA certificate highlights the skills that the volunteer has achieved in their volunteer role, the certificate can be created and sent to them as a PDF.

Grandmentor - Volunteer Mentor

  • Volunteering Matters

Grandmentors is an award-winning, inter-generational mentoring programme, operating in various locations across the UK. We are currently looking for new Volunteer Mentors to join our programme in Midlothian which launched in 2023. It is widely recognised that care-experienced young people are some of the most disadvantaged in society. Many are in care because they have experienced, or are at risk of, neglect and/or abuse. Security and stability are often missing from their lives. We recruit, train and support volunteer mentors (normally but not exclusively aged 50+) who draw on their wealth of professional and personal life experience and skills to support young people (aged 16-26) through life transitions on their pathway to independence. Grandmentors is all about empowering and positive relationships, aligning to “The Promise” that Scotland made to its care experienced population. Young people are listened to, heard, and responded to. They benefit from safe, consistent loving relationships, and access to meaningful support to boost mental & physical wellbeing, resilience, and confidence. Grandmentors facilitate conversations around keeping well, coping strategies, self-care, and self-management. Each young person alongside their Grandmentor co-produces a bespoke support plan and set goals based on their needs. They explore and review the young person’s challenges, and priorities. These range from enhancing mental & physical health and wellbeing, dealing with stress and conflict, support to access sustainable and appropriate housing, career, and education goals, budget planning and more.

Drop in Centre Volunteers

  • Loans Community Centre Limited (LCCL)

The Drop in Centre is held every Wednesday in Loans Village Hall between 13:30 and 16:15 and it urgently needs two new volunteers so that it can keep running. One volunteer is stepping down now and the other at the end of the year due to failing health. This would involve buying cakes and milk, keeping the receipts, collecting money and serving tea to some of the more elderly members of our Community. For some of the locals who come along, it’s the only day of the week that they get out. If you’re interested in helping out then feel free to drop-in yourself when one of the sessions are running so you can see first hand what it’s all about.
