This work often includes using the guillotine, laminator and book-binding. We also sell arts and craft materials and a wide range of stationery supplies. Our greetings cards include those created by local artists. You will be interested in the heritage of paper-making in Penicuik and enjoy working as part of a team. Retail experience would be a bonus but is not required. Volunteers are also encouraged to work cooperatively with the team as we go through a time of change and development. The role requires a minimum of one shift of three hours a week along with attendance at monthly team meetings.

Elgin Museum is Scotland’s oldest continuously independent museum and run entirely by volunteers. Would you be interested in joining us as a visitor service volunteer?
This very rewarding work includes welcoming visitors and helping visitor's orientate themselves to the museum, so they can make the most of their visit!
A willingness to learn about the Museums collections, and ability to explain to visitors how and where to access information, are essential for the volunteer role. (Looking at the displays and their interpretation is the best way to familiarise yourself – and you can always ask questions of more seasoned volunteers on duty with you!)
The ability to serve in the shop, including the use of a (very simple) card reader and to communicate with the front desk via walkie would also be helpful.
Full Training will be given with an induction to the Museum’s workings. Volunteers will need to be comfortable and able to work independently after being given initial training.
If you feel this volunteering role is for you, please email: curator@elginmuseum.org.uk or visit our website https://elginmuseum.org.uk/volunteering/

At Brodie Castle, depending on the season, tasks outside in the garden vary -- and you can be matched to a role that will suit what you would like to do in the garden. It is a team effort, so gardening can also be a bit of a social too, if that's what you like. There is also the ability to learn and enhance your own gardening and conservation skills.
