Support Volunteers undertake some training.
Do you have spare time that you would like to do something worthwhile?
If you love driving you can volunteer your wheels and give people who can’t get out and about on their own some much-needed freedom.
The RVS are recruiting volunteers for our Community transport Service. Could you offer your time to help older people get to their appointments (it may be the doctor or just the grocery store)?
If you would like to take up this opportunity or would just like more information please contact us, we are happy to chat with you about the way you can support your local community.

Our Family Friends bring hope and belonging to families who are isolated, enabling the families to be more connected into communities and support networks. Once approved, volunteers usually meet a family on a regular basis for a few months. They might, for example, look after a child who has been referred to us and invest time with them by taking them out to do fun activities, or meet up with parents to go to the shops, go out for a walk, or help with paperwork, but above all else take time to listen and support. If volunteers have a spare room, they may be able to become Host Families and host during the day or overnight. Host Families open their homes to look after children from a night or two up to a couple of weeks. This can give space to families dealing with challenges. We also have Resource Friends who may do some painting, joinery, gardening, or anything practical that will help a family out.
At Safe Families we believe that no one should feel alone, and we exist to create relationship and connection offering hope, belonging and support to children, families, and care leavers. Facing life alone is hard and when families feel like there is no one there to help, it is a scary place to be. We connect children, young people and families with volunteers who can offer them compassion, plus helping them to connect in to support networks.
We are looking for more wonderful volunteers to join us and help deliver the 2024 Stirling Highland Games event on Saturday 17th August. As one of our Stewards, you can volunteer to help with the set-up [15th and 16th] and de-rig [18th and 19th] as well as on the day itself [17th].
Stewards can select areas of the event they wish to be part of including; competitions, gathering marquee, gates, traders village, engagement, and car parking.
It's a fantastic occasion made possible by the committee and the volunteer team on the day.
As part of the RAF Association, our Connections Volunteers offer the vital connection and support our beneficiaries need. In this role, you will make a real difference by helping support a lonely individual via regular telephone calls.
We’re looking for volunteers to support people with digital, offering face-to-face help at our digital groups
You’ll be part of our Reconnect service. The service provides digital groups that take place across communities in Edinburgh and East Lothian, providing advice to people who are looking to improve their digital skills.
From offering basic support with turning on or using a device, to focused help in areas like how to keep in touch with friends and family online; how to save money online; or help with CV writing, job searches and applying for jobs online. There may also be opportunities to get involved in research.
You don’t need to be an IT expert as training will be provided but you’ll be friendly, patient and keen to help people from various backgrounds get online in order to improve their overall wellbeing.
Do you like dogs? Are you interested in helping people through a love of dogs but don't have a dog yourself?
We are looking for people who have an interest in coordinating our Therapet visits and volunteers throughout West Lothian and parts of Edinburgh. This involves emailing, phone calls and some visits to liaise with organisations such as the NHS, Colleges, schools, companies and care homes. The role entails contacting volunteers and arranging visits, coordinating small teams for larger visits and communicating with our office in Edinburgh.
You need to have good communication skills for this and can do this largely from home, with some travel to visit places to discuss logistics and ensure they are the right environment for our visits.
If you have a keen interest in dogs you may oversee some of our 'PAWS Against Stress' sessions for students during exam periods or freshers weeks, assess potential new Therapets (training provided) and support our new Therapets and their volunteer owners through their initial visits.
We have around 900 volunteers and their pets around Scotland providing visits voluntarily, but we also have volunteers who don't own a dog who love being involved with us as they see the benefit people get from spending time with an animal. Examples are people helping us with marketing ideas, fundraising and volunteer coordination. Get in touch with us if interested!
