Our respite fosterers provide temporary accommodation for a dog at home on behalf of Guide Dogs, and comply with the Boarders Agreement in relation to the welfare and handling of the dog or puppy.

What does the role involve? · Dealing with booking requests from Guide Dog fundraising groups, other volunteers and staff · Managing and recording bookings of equipment · Ensuring equipment is available for booking dates · Ensuring equipment is complete, clean and safe to use · Handling of equipment, movement to storage areas · Liaising with volunteers and staff

We’re looking for friendly, sociable people to bring HMS Unicorn’s history to life for our visitors. We’re the oldest ship in Scotland so there’s lots of stories to tell about our past! You will be trained to give tours of HMS Unicorn to our visitors and answer their questions. You’ll develop an understanding of and enthusiasm for our historic ship combined with excellent customer service and communication skills. Volunteers will be given relevant training and support by the Volunteering, Engagement and Learning Officer. Giving tours will involve being able to move between decks using the ladderways (only ways of access) around the ship. The key tasks will include: • Learning about the history of HMS Unicorn. • Working with members of the public – giving tours and answering questions in a helpful and friendly way. • Supporting the Museum staff in acting as the main point of welcome for all visitors to HMS Unicorn. This project involves local people in the development of an accessible organic growing centre at Jupiter Urban Wildlife Centre, owned by Scottish Wildlife Trust. The aim of this programme is to involve local people, for whom access to nature is severely limited, in a regular programme of outdoor growing and conservation-based activity. We know that connection with nature enhances peoples’ lives through improving health, well-being and building community cohesion. We provide supported volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities in two-hour outdoor practical sessions every Wednesday and Thursday. During summer months sessions are focused on our fruit and vegetable garden which provides a range of hands-on practical tasks from organically growing herbs, salad, vegetables and fruit. Learning how to compost, plant wildflowers and garden with wildlife in mind whilst helping with general garden maintenance. Outdoor cooking sessions are run at the end of each month. The recycle woodshed compliments our garden and offers the opportunity through winter when growing season has ended to learn how to make a range of items out of recycled pallet wood currently donated by Whyte & Mackay. We have an accessible wood-working space where our service users can learn to build planters, raised beds, bug hotels, bird/bat boxes, stools and signs from reclaimed timber. What are the benefits of getting involved? Our aim is to promote and look after the natural resource at Jupiter and to actively facilitate interaction, enjoyment, learning and conservation of the amazing wildlife-rich habitat that Jupiter presents. We know that regular facilitated visits to Jupiter reduce stress levels and isolation, restore health and provide calmness and structure for people with disabilities. Being actively involved in environmental activity, learning new skills and meeting new people changes lives. How much does it cost to come along? All session places are free of charge and can be booked ahead in blocks. What experience is required? No experience is necessary as all training and guidance is provided and matched to the needs of participants. We provide gloves but request that participants wear appropriate seasonal clothing. What do I need to bring? Please feel free to bring snacks, we provide hot refreshments and will be sampling our own produce later in the year. Is it safe? All activities are risk assessed and a qualified first aider is present at every session.

Our Home Visitors play a vital role in delivery of our service by visiting potential volunteer pet foster carers to assess their house, home situation and the fosterer. Main tasks: - Contact potential fosterer and arrange a time for the home visit to take place. - Carry out the home visit following the guidelines provided by PFSS. - Complete the home visit report and return a copy to the Home Visit Coordinator.

A fantastic opportunity to join our exciting lock keeping project and experience the 'canal magic' for yourself. As a member of our enthusiastic team of volunteers you will be working in the unique setting of the Forth and Clyde Canal and around famous landmarks such as the Falkirk Wheel and The Kelpies. Working with our volunteer lock keeping team based at Lock 16 in Camelon, the role will involve assisting with boat movements on the Forth and Clyde Canal between Lock 3 at the Kelpies and Lock 20 near Banknock. Go Forth and Clyde volunteers assist with every boat movement between these locks 7 days per week during the lock keeping season, so there is ample opportunity to get involved. Volunteers can use their own bicycles to travel between the locks, and Go Forth and Clyde also provides bicycles for volunteers to use whilst on lock keeping duty. The required tools, life jackets and hi-vis clothing will also be provided.

This opportunity is to carry out life-skill workshops in primary and secondary schools to inspire the next generation. The work is sessional and you can do as many or as little sessions as you like. We are looking for people with skills and knowledge to share, no matter what it is, as long as it differs from what is already available to children in the usual academic curriculum. Volunteers would be carrying out sessions in whatever way they like, such as through presentations, games or doing team activities. If even one child in the classroom is inspired, then the work is definitely beneficial.

VSGWL volunteers have a valuable role in the community supporting people to maintain a full and independent life at home whilst they are waiting for their package of care and statutory needs to be met. Through volunteering with VSGWL you will provide one to one support to an individual(s), offering friendship, support and social interactions which positively impact on their health and wellbeing.  - Support engagement in social activities such as going for a walk, attending group activities and sharing interests or hobbies. - Helping to access and use technology (i.e. Zoom and What’s App). - Accompanying shopping and running errands such as collecting parcels, prescriptions and going to the Post Office. - Assistance to attend medical and non-medical appointments. - Building confidence and support to use public transport. - Helping to heat up prepared or processed meals and/or hot drinks. - Signposting to additional help available from partner organisations via Volunteer Manager.

Our stores sell lots of great donated & new goods to help raise vital funds to make a real difference to disadvantaged children, young people and families across the UK. Our retail stores are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. We have loads of amazing stock donated to us every week, and this all needs to be sorted, tagged and put on the shop-floor for sale! Making sure our shops look fantastic is another task you can get involved with. You may also be required to help out on the till too, but we will show you how that works during your time volunteering with us. We value the contribution of everyone who supports Barnardo’s. You will be a friendly face of Barnardo’s by volunteering in one of our shops.
