About us
We're the UK's biggest organisation dedicated to supporting people with MS and those who care about them.
We fund world-leading scientists to search for new treatments. We make sure everyone can access expert information and services to help them live well with MS. We speak up together to make sure everyone’s voice is heard, and rights are protected. We support each other when times are tough and celebrate together when they’re good. We make sure no one has to feel alone.
Together we’re a community of people living with MS: friends, families, carers, scientists, researchers, healthcare professionals, campaigners, and volunteers.
About this role
Our Board of Trustees plays a critical role in setting our strategic direction, supporting and challenging the Executive Group, and setting and upholding our values and culture. They agree our annual plans, budget and performance targets. They oversee how we manage our finances and risk, and ensure we comply with the law.
We’re looking for two people to join our Board as Elected Trustees. Elected Trustees serve a three-year term, with the option to be reappointed for a further three-year term at the discretion of the Board. This role is voluntary and is unpaid.
Electing Trustees is an opportunity to make sure the MS Society represents what’s important to all parts of our MS community. We welcome everyone affected by MS to join our Electorate and vote for who sits on our Board.
This vacancy closes at 5pm on Friday 29 September. Interviews will take place online on 16 and 17 October with a panel of Trustees who will decide which candidates to nominate for election, based on their skills and lived experience. From 13 November to 8 December, our Electorate will be invited to vote and the two candidates who receive the most votes will be elected.
The results of the election will be announced on Friday 15 December and our newly elected Trustees will start their terms on 1 January 2024.
About you
We consider a person’s skills and diversity of lived experience when deciding whether to nominate them for election. This ensures that our Board has a wide range of expertise to effectively scrutinise and challenge our work. And that our strategic direction, values and culture reflect what is important to all parts of the MS community.
We welcome applications from people with any of the skills our Board needs to provide expert oversight of our ambitious strategy and transformation programme:
Data, digital and technology
Finance
Fundraising
Marketing and engagement
And we’re keen to hear from you if your lived experience could enrich our Board’s understanding of what matters to:
Younger people with MS
LGBTQ+ people
People with Black, Asian or minority ethnic heritage
People with advanced MS and the people who care for them
If you’re elected, we’ll expect you to share our values and have – or be prepared to develop – an understanding of MS. And you’ll need to be sure you can commit the time and energy it’ll take to be an active and effective member of our Board.
How to apply
If you haven’t already done so, please visit our website at mssociety.org.uk/board-recruitment to find out more about the MS Society in 2023 and the role of an Elected Trustee. Here you can learn how we are run, review our Board EDI statement, and read our Annual Report and Accounts.
Please use the link below to submit your application and upload your CV. Please use your application to explain how your skills and experience would help you in this role. Please also tell us about any personal connection you have to MS and the MS Society. You’ll be asked to provide contact details for two referees – they should be people who are able to comment specifically on your suitability for this role.
If you have any questions about this role or you’re unable to apply online, please contact our Governance Manager on 020 8438 0839 or by email at governance@mssociety.org.uk.
We're looking for enthusiastic, creative and organised people across the nation to be a Community Fundraising Volunteer. Around 90 per cent of our income comes from our supporters and we couldn't continue doing what we do without them. That means, our community fundraising volunteers play a really important part in rallying people together to raise vital funds which help to protect children and prevent abuse.
You'll volunteer without regular time commitments, ‘as and when' volunteering! Engage with the public, organisations and local communities – promoting a positive image of the NSPCC! You'll be a valued part of one of our Volunteer Community Fundraising Teams across the UK, raising awareness and funds. We appreciate that work, family and friends come first and, with that in mind, this role offers flexibility to fit in with your lifestyle. You only need to commit to a couple of hours a month, but if you want to do more that would be great.
If you are interested please click the ‘Apply' button (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on info@volunteerglasgow.org
