We are looking for a Chair of Trustees to join our Board and help guide our organisation as it moves forward into what we see as a new and exciting phase. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who has an understanding of mental health issues and a commitment to our work. It would also be advantageous to have an understanding of the role of a 3rd sector organisation.
Applicants will have the experience and skills to ensure that the charity continues to develop. As the Chair of Trustee, you will be required to contribute to the governance of the organisation including attendance at regular board meetings, other ad hoc meetings, Annual General Meeting and annual conference.
Our collection can volunteers raise vital funds to support our work to tackle loneliness. Acting as the friendly face of Age Scotland, volunteers place collection cans around communities and collect cans once they’re full.
Duties may include:
- Placing Collecting Cans: Identify new locations for collection cans within your designated area. Seek permission from the site holder(s). Encourage prominent and secure positioning of cans
- Servicing collecting cans: Ensure cans are clearly labelled, numbered, sealed and have your fundraising office contact details on them.
- Emptying and counting collecting cans
- Keeping Accurate Records: Record details of all outgoing cans and ensure these are recorded on can placement forms as issued by the Fundraiser.
- Banking of Monies: Each donor’s cans should be banked on separate pay-in slips.
Glasgow Tool Library is a community-led charity that aims to radically change the way we access and manage resources. Our mission is to build a sustainable and inclusive alternative to consumerism that also promotes community wellbeing and empowerment. The service works like a regular library, but instead of books, people can access an extensive selection of tools and equipment for their homes, gardens, hobbies and adventures.
Our Board of Trustees ensures that the organisation fulfils all its charitable aims, legal requirements and operates efficiently. It maintains an overview of policy and strategic direction and support staff in operational decisions. We are now looking for an experienced Treasurer to work closely with the other Trustees to ensure that the charity's finances are managed effectively and efficiently and help ensure our mission is fulfilled.
Key Responsibilities:
> Oversee the financial management of the charity, including budgeting, financial reporting and cash flow management
> Ensure that the charity's financial policies and procedures follow legal and regulatory requirements
> Work with the board to develop and implement financial and fund-raising strategies that support the charity's mission and goals
> Monitor the charity's financial performance and provide regular updates and recommendations to the board
> Ensure that the charity's financial records are accurate and up to date
> Support with annual reporting to OSCR
> Provide guidance and support to the board on financial matters
> Support with bookkeeping responsibilities and liaise with payroll provider (GCVS)
Commitment
The Board meets formally every two months – usually virtually, although aims for a minimum of one in-person strategy meeting each year – with email and WhatsApp correspondence between meetings. There are also ad-hoc meetings and decisions depending on the circumstances of the organisation. Board members are encouraged to support and attend community events held by GTL.
