New volunteer opportunities to support Stornoway North, Community Fridge
Training will be provided for all
Helping to run a monthly community lunch aiming to combat isolation and build community connections in Cardrona and surrounding area.
Assist with set-up – setting out tables/chairs/crockery.
Either help with service and making people feel welcome – taking food orders and taking food to tables.
OR
Help in the kitchen – washing up.
Assist with clear-up – clearing tables, putting tables/chairs away, washing up.
As a Community Café Volunteer, you will play a vital role in supporting the operations of our café and foster a welcoming atmosphere for our visitors. You will assist in various tasks including customer service, food preparation and café maintenance while upholding our commitment to serving the community.
1. Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner
2. Take orders, handle cash transactions and operate the POS system with accuracy.
3. Prepare and serve food and beverages according to established recipes and quality standards.
4. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the café
5. Always adhere to food safety and hygiene guidelines.
6. Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers to ensure efficient operation of the Café.
Duties may vary based on the specific needs of the Café and may be subject to change.
We also have several other volunteering opportunities if catering is not your thing! These include gardening, admin, Board duties, maintenance, baking, just to name a few. There really is something for everyone at the Glencorse Centre and we love to welcome new faces to our quirky team!!
A pool of local Volunteers are needed to help us to run Community Events, from Fundraising Cafes to bars for Weddings/Dances and possibly more activities for children in future.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking to recruit Coffee Shop Volunteers to assist in the day to day running of the coffee shop who have a positive and welcoming attitude, good communication skills and want to be part of an enthusiastic and motivated team.
Experience is not required however any experience in catering or hospitality may be of benefit. Barista training will be provided to you to make and serve our range of coffees.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
1. Operating the till.
2. Serving customers in a pleasant and courteous manner.
3. Cleaning the kitchen and coffee shop area in accordance with Health and Safety Regulations and Guidance.
4. Undertaking the preparation of the food and beverages served in the coffee shop.
5. Ensuring that the coffee shop is clean and tidy and creates a pleasant and welcoming environment.
6. Reporting maintenance issues to the Coffee Shop Manager.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
The ideal volunteers will be enthusiastic, able to work on their own initiative and be able to work under pressure.

Our modern teaching kitchen is where we run workshops for all ages and abilities. The kitchen regularly hosts cooking classes and is available for community groups to use, including after-school groups. Help assist this busy and creative kitchen set-up, or cooking and/or food prep, serving and clear-up. Help us keep the kitchen running smoothly for all that use it and to support our work in healthy eating and cooking!
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is willing to support our aims and objectives, to locate funding opportunities to assist with building and promoting our services.

At All These Sessions We Will Be Providing Hot/Cold Drinks, Refreshments & Fresh Fruit To Both Children & Adults.
You Will Be Part Of A Team Of Volunteers Running Each Session Which Will Be Held On A Variety Of Days Throughout The Holidays,
An Enhanced PVG Will Be Required For This Role.

Do you care about reducing food waste and have a couple of hours free a week? Why not help Greener Orkney in their Kirkwall and Stromness community fridges?
The community fridge aims to reduce the amount of food waste going into landfill and will be stocked with ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ food given by the supermarkets and local businesses. Donations from the public are also accepted under certain circumstances.
As a community fridge volunteer you will be:
- picking up the food from the supermarket (if you have transport)
- Weighing and sorting the food
- assisting members of the public coming to take food away
Full training will be given and there is flexibility on evenings and cover for holidays or sickness etc. If you are interested in helping in any way please contact greenerorkney@gmail.com or call Jane Nelson on 07739 144064.
**Volunteers are currently needed for a Thursday lunchtime in Kirkwall (12noon to 2pm), and mid-week evening volunteers in both Kirkwall and Stromness for approximately 1 hour**
Would you like to gain experience of catering and customer service while helping to support a vital community service?
The Hyperclub offer many activities/services for adults and children with disabilities and their carers, including activity cafes, a sensory room and weekly karaoke. They are looking for a cafe assistant to help with preparing refreshments, greeting customers and serving people within the cafe.
No previous experience is needed, only a positive attitude, as training will be provided.
