About Children 1st
At Children 1st our ambition is for every child in Scotland to be safe, loved and well with their family. As a charity we offer emotional, practical, and financial support to help families to put children first and campaign to uphold the rights of every child.
We support the whole family when they need it, for as long as they need it. We offer help to prevent families reaching crisis point, to keep children safe and to support children and families to recover from trauma and harm.
About the service/department
In East Renfrewshire and Glasgow south we aim to strengthen relationships within families and reduce emotional distress. Placing the voice of children, young people and their families at the Centre of the support, the team provide whole family support; focusing on highlighting the resilience of families and responding to their individual needs. We support family members of all ages across our services; however, in East Renfrewshire there is a particular focus on supporting young people between 8-18yrs. The training for this opportunity will be in our Giffnock office.
General Purpose of Role:
To support the work of Children 1st staff in helping families become more resilient by:
•building relationships with the family group and/or individual family members
•helping reduce isolation and promote a sense of belonging by encouraging families to engage with their wider communities
•building on identified strengths to increase self-esteem and confidence in individuals
•assisting parents to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children
Key Tasks
It helps us to be most responsive when volunteers are trained to support children and families in different ways. We explore what will be the best fit for you and the service from the tasks below at interview and during training and induction.
Key tasks may include:
Family Wellbeing
•How you spend your time will be different for each family but will probably include spending time with a family in their own home. Activities may include play, informal learning and support with establishing a family routine. It may also include support with practical tasks.
•Spending time out and about with the family in the local community accessing activities and resources such as libraries or groups.
Parent Mentoring
•Helping to increase a parent or carer’s confidence and self-esteem by building on identified strengths and abilities through forming a trusting relationship.
Key Tasks (cont)
Befriending
•Organising and undertaking weekly activities with a child or young person, either in their own home or out in the community
•Supporting and developing a child or young person’s personal and social development
•Helping the child or young person to build their self-esteem and confidence through praise and recognition
•Creating opportunities for a child or young person to experience new activities and develop their interests
All Family Wellbeing Volunteers will:
•Keep in regular contact with Children 1st staff
•Record all interactions with parents and families in line with Children 1st’s recording procedures. Volunteers will be supported by Children 1st staff to do this.
•Take part in relevant meetings such as support meetings and training sessions
Time commitment
21 hours initial training generally followed by a weekly commitment of 2 or 3 hours. Volunteers are asked to commit a few hours a week for at least a year

Are you looking to use your admin skills to make a difference? You’ll provide admin support to your local Community Fundraising team to ensure that we reach more potential supporters and that all our donors, however they choose to support us, receive exceptional supporter care. We're a new and growing team with big ambitions to engage local individuals, groups and businesses in the fight to end bad housing and homelessness. You'll play an integral role in helping to broaden our supporter base in local communities.
-Main tasks include:
• Research new audiences such as schools, local businesses and faith groups based around Shelter Scotland Aberdeen
• Support Regional Community Fundraiser in approaching new supporters.
• Strengthen relationships with supporters by providing fundraising materials and updates on our work by post and email.
• Maintaining supporter records on our database.
• Support in maintaining basic income spreadsheet such as Just Giving page total.
• Providing basic administrative tasks including preparing fundraising packs, posters and documents and other ad hoc duties.

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Part-Time Volunteer Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist the Operations Manager with the regular administrative tasks and help ensure the smooth operation of our charity. This role is crucial in helping us maintain our commitment to dignity and support for those in need.
Key duties:
• To make service users feel welcome on entering the community centre and directing them to according to their appointments if required.
• To provide service users with refreshments on arrival and during the course of the session.
• To encourage service users to get involved in conversations and generate ideas about service improvements.
• To provide a valuable link between the project officer and the community to help feedback ideas which will help to shape the services going forwards.
Personal specification:
• Volunteers must be 18 or over. This is not a clinical role and you will not be shadowing or assisting staff.
• Good listening and communication skills are essential.
• Patience and composure.
• A caring, sympathetic, sensitive manner and a non-judgemental approach
• Reliable/ dependable and flexible.
• Understanding of confidentiality.
• Have a positive outlook and enthusiastic approach.
Additional requirements and general information:
• Successful placement will be dependent on Disclosure Scotland PVG and Occupational health clearances plus two character references
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Volunteers should not: undertake duties outside this role description without checking first with the Diabetes MCN Manager/Volunteer Manager; undertake any manual handling tasks without the appropriate training; undertake patients’ personal or clinical care.
• A volunteer can offer emotional support and empathy but must under no circumstances offer advice of medical opinion on a patient’s treatment
• Volunteers are in place to complement the work of the paid staff and are not used to replace roles that are normally undertaken by paid hospital employees.
• Volunteers are bound by the ‘Volunteer Agreement’ which should be signed and returned to the Volunteer Manager prior to undertaking this role.
• You will be required to undertake training relevant to the role including: corporate induction; role training prior to placement and other training as identified for the role whilst on placement.

As a busy 7 day per week community centre run by volunteers we are seeking a team of new dedicated volunteers to meet/greet/signpost our centre users on a daily basis. Our aim is to ensure Peebles Drill Hall is at the heart of the community providing a welcoming space to anyone and everyone who crosses our threshold.
Accept deliveries, provide email address and booking forms to people making enquiries, signpost to other services. Smile and welcome everyone as they walk through the door.
