Edinburgh Headway Group

Brain injury affects an estimated 1million people in the UK and can change everything in a matter of seconds. Those affected can be left with a range of physical, cognitive and emotional difficulties which can be lifelong. Edinburgh Headway Group is a specialist organisation which supports the longer term needs of adults with acquired brain injuries in Edinburgh and the Lothians. We provide a range of services, at Headway House and within the community, which are specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of members and their carers with a focus on improving everyday life. The Group is staffed by a small number of staff and an army of volunteers.

Current opportunities

Do you want to make a difference? Could you share your interests with someone new? Do you like to go for a coffee, for a walk or shopping or visit art museum etc.? Do you have 2-3 hours a week to spare? If you have you could join our team! We can match you with an adult with an acquired brain injury, to allow their unpaid carers to receive valuable respite from their caring role. Each match is different and can fit around your time giving you a flexible way to volunteer. PVG required.

Are you our Mr or Mrs Motivator? We are looking for dynamic volunteers to work with individuals with an ABI alongside our Gym Supervisor in our own very customized gym. We need enthusiastic, motivated and patient volunteers who have, or are working towards, a qualification in Physiotherapy or a Sports/Exercise related qualification. Good communications skills, a positive attitude, good sense of humor and a willingness to get involved is a must.

You will be working with our members to help improve their cognitive skills and at the same time have fun through playing games, cards, bingo etc. You could be asked to help out with specific groups e.g. quizzes, jewellery making, play pool, board games etc., or assist our less outgoing members to become more integrated with the others. You will actively contribute to the maintenance of a professional & welcoming environment at EHG. This is a rewarding and satisfying role.
