Current opportunities

We need you! If you enjoy having a chat, trying new things and developing your skills then this is the opportunity for you. Older adults (55+) in Dundee can become lonely and isolated through no fault of their own and that’s where Community Companions come in. Two hours a week can make such a difference to an isolated older person. Whether it’s out and about or visiting someone in their home this can be at a time that suits you. Volunteers are matched with people based on similar interests and hobbies. Full and ongoing training and support will be given to help you develop your skills and knowledge. Becoming a Community Companion not only improves other’s wellbeing but also your own. You’re never too old to be a volunteer! If you have what it takes to make a difference get in touch we want to hear from you!

Dundee Healthy Minds Network is a group set up to ensure that people with a lived experience of mental health difficulties are involved in the development of Dundee’s mental health service. We have a twice weekly drop in to provide a more informal and relaxed opportunity for people to discuss wider mental health issues with like minded individuals. We have various activity groups (Arts & Crafts, Guitar Group and Gardening Group. We hope to offer a choir and writing group in the future) and regular events and talks. We are providing a rewarding opportunity for non-judgemental individuals to further develop their skills by providing a friendly face and ear to our network members, supporting social activities, setting up and leading various group projects and learning skills to support adults with a lived experience of mental health conditions to be meaningfully involved in services. Additionally if you have a special skill (art, music/singing, creative writing, gardening, exercise etc) there may be opportunities to start a new group. For those that are interested, there will be times when additional opportunities will present, such as supporting the project coordinator at outreach mental health services when collecting data (for example from questionnaires) and at various awareness raising events.
