St John Scotland (Scottish Borders)

Charity registered in Scotland SC047485

We work with local communities across Scotland to help save lives in the event of cardiac arrest, by training members of the public in simple bystander CPR so they can come to the aid of a loved one or stranger in an emergency. We also work with community groups, businesses, and individuals across the country to increase access to publicly available defibrillators, helping to give more local communities access to vital life-saving equipment.

Current opportunities

As a CPR Champion you will support St John Scotland as part of their partnership with Save a Life for Scotland. You will get the opportunity to attend various events within your local area with other St John Scotland CPR Champions and CPR Leads ensuring that participants are equipped to undertake potentially lifesaving bystander CPR according to current policies, regulations and protocol. You will also be trained on demonstrating defibrillator usage to participants. Main tasks: - Deliver Bystander CPR awareness to various people at different events within your local area - Defibrillator Demonstration (training is provided)

St John Scotland promotes and supports the placing of Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) in communities across Scotland. St John Scotland helps local community groups by donating towards the cost of the equipment and offering free Bystander CPR and defibrillator awareness sessions. Volunteers will be expected to travel around your area to support local communities on where it is best to place the PAD. Access to a car is desirable. Volunteer travel expenses are covered.

Our CPR Lead will support the delivery of bystander CPR demonstrations to community groups across your local area. The demonstrations are very hands-on - we aim to give people the skills they need to recognise a cardiac arrest and take the appropriate action. We work with schools (from Primary 1 and above), community groups, businesses, and other organisations. Demonstrations are organised and delivered by volunteers.
