Yes to Life

We provide information to guide people with cancer through the confusing options for care. Our aim is to help them make informed decisions. With our holistic approach, Yes to Life emphasises the importance of the mental, emotional and spiritual state of those with cancer. Along with physical needs, we feel these should be considered as central to any treatment programme. Rooted in almost 20 years of experience working with people with cancer, we know it is vital that everyone seeking options should be empowered to make their own health decisions.

We also believe in the benefits of a positive approach. Of course, a cancer diagnosis is frightening, but instead of talking about ‘victims’ and ‘battling with disease’, we feel that forward-looking optimism is crucial. We have seen the realistic hope that results from gaining access to information, and from being empowered to explore your individual needs and make your own choices to manage your condition, as you see fit.

Our role is to help people to decide what they want to do to help themselves – by providing information and referring them to qualified experts – and then to support them in their chosen path. Yes to Life empowers people with cancer to make informed decisions about their care options. For almost two decades, we have provided evidence-based information to those in need.

Current opportunities

Yes to Life is looking for a committed volunteer to help us manage our online Life Directory of Therapies and Providers of Integrative Medicine for cancer. A cancer diagnosis can be extremely stressful and the volume of information available on the internet can be overwhelming. The Life Directory aims to provide valuable information in a manageable way. While the information is primarily UK-centric, it has been expanding rapidly to include providers all over the world.

We are recruiting volunteers who enjoy volunteering in their community to help raise the charity’s profile at a local level. Everyone has their own community and we would love to work with people who can share their passion, interest and enthusiasm for Yes to Life with people in their communities who could benefit from our work. Below is a list of ways you can do this but we are very happy to listen to your suggestions and ideas too. The role is flexible and you can choose how many hours you dedicate to the role. • Visit local GP surgeries, hospitals, health centres, gyms, health food stores, supermarkets and places of worship to leave our flyers. • Request a stand at local festivals and/or other local events and promote the work of YtL • Create connections with local hospitals and/or GP practices to find out if we can have a regular stand on their premises • Work with local schools that organise coffee mornings or other events for parents to promote the work of YtL • Contact local community groups and community centres to deliver presentations on YtL • Like and share our social media posts • Organise a presentation at your place of either once or twice a year • Organise fundraising events such as bake sales, raffles, sponsored walks or anything else that supports our work

We are looking for self-motivated and compassionate individuals to help facilitate our support groups and make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer. Wigwam Support Groups offer those with cancer a chance to share their feelings and experiences in a safe and welcoming environment. Support Group Facilitators listen, provide emotional support and share approved cancer related information. No special qualifications are needed for this role.

Ensuring that all community fundraising supporters receive an outstanding level of service. Support our aim to build a strong community network of local fundraisers, committed and inspired to raise money to help us achieve our mission of supporting people with cancer. What will you do? • Flexibility and willingness to learn about Yes to Life supporters and work, particularly in regards to community fundraising • Able to use interpersonal skills to effectively engage with others, understand what motivates them and respond appropriately. • Be the first point of contact for all our supporters
