Help to tutor ESOL Learners (English for Speakers of Other Languages).
Volunteers will be trained in PDA ITESOL (Introduction to Tutoring ESOL, SCQF Level 6) and then volunteer in the ESOL programme.
Once trained you would volunteer with an ESOL Learner/s from the Elmwood Campus, Cupar for a minimum of one hour a week, providing additional English Language Support.
No formal qualifications needed to start the training course as an interview with the programme organiser will determine suitability;
The training is done online, so good internet connection and IT skills required;
The training is no more than four hours a week, for two modules, both eight weeks in length, by the second module you will be placed with learner/s;
No previous teaching experience needed, just a willingness to work with others and an interest in teaching English as a language would be helpful;
If English is not your first language, then proof of English language level required (e.g. a very good Cambridge FCE, CAE, CPE or IELTS 7, or a very good SQA Higher)
Once placed with a learner it is your choice about how often you work with them each week - it should be equally beneficial and suitable;
Based and around the Cupar area, willing to travel would be benefit but not essential;
There is NO cost for the course, SRUC covers this,but we ask that you are able to commit to volunteering, as best as you can, for at least 6 months to a year after training;
You will need to undergo a PVG, the cost of this is also covered by SRUC.
The next course starts when there are sufficient numbers, so get in touch at any time.
