Baby Steps 20+
Social enterprise employing adults with disabilities. Providing upcycled baby and children's equipment at affordable prices, and reducing our carbon footprint.
Current opportunities
Baby Steps 20+ is recognised as a great resource for local families, by providing high quality pre-loved baby items at reasonable cost. A REVOLVE certified shop, our paid staff with disabilities offer a high quality service, which helps families who may be on low incomes, diverts waste from landfill, and creates paid employment opportunities from those furthest from the employment due to disability.
Volunteers will assist our staff with disabilities in their day-to-day work, keeping the shop tidy, serving customers, and making sure the shelves are well stocked with baby and nursery items.
The opportunity will involve:
- encouraging and supporting our staff with disabilities in their day-to-day work
- serving/helping with customers
- cash handling
- keeping the shop stocked
- helping with our recycling activities
Baby Steps 20+ are seeking volunteer Trustees to support the work of the social enterprise. Trustees have responsibility to oversee the work of the project, decide on the strategic direction of the organisation, and ensure that the service provided is of the highest standard. Trustees meet monthly, and occasionally if required, more often. The team are friendly and welcoming and would welcome volunteers with experience in strategic planning, disability, recycling, social enterprise, or community engagement.
Baby Steps 20+ offers paid employment opportunities to adults with a range of disabilities. From our social enterprise in Kirk Wynd in Falkirk, we receive donations of preloved baby equipment, which is then refurbished to a high standard to benefit local people. Our 3 core aims include: supporting local families, many of whom experience poverty, creating employment to those furthest from paid work due to disability, and diverting waste from landfill.
We currently meet monthly on Zoom but we hope to soon begin meetings in person. We are looking for people who have the time to spare to get to know and understand our ambitions, and who then will work with other trustees, to provide a strategic overview and guidance to operational staff.
Our Falkirk Shop operates to provide paid employment for adults with disabilities. We stock nursery equipment, prams and pushchairs, clothes and toys for babies and toddlers. We support local families by providing a resource for high quality, reasonably priced baby goods.
