Dundee Therapy Garden

Charity registered in Scotland SC046484

Dundee Therapy Garden is a mental health charity providing Horticultural Therapy to veterans of the Armed Forces and Uniformed Services. We use gardening activities to facilitate improvements in mental and physical health and social functioning. We work from a purpose built site in Dudhope Park. Many volunteers are engaged in working directly with veterans but many other opportunities are also available.

Current opportunity

The secretary is one of 5 trustees who manage this small charity. They have a range of backgrounds such as military, finance, psychology, the City Council and gardening. They have 4 formal meetings a year which the Secretary organises and minutes. Trustees keep in contact with the 4 qualified staff who run the site day to day. The secretary helps to organise staff recruitment, when necessary. The treasurer and auditor produce annual accounts which the secretary emails to funders and others. Funds are raised from local and national trusts. The secretary helps with funding appeals, record keeping and ensuring funders are kept advised of progress. A small amount of public relations can be involved. As with other trustees, the secretary will chat with beneficiaries when visiting the garden site. The secretary will be provided with a laptop.
