Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. For over 7 million people in the UK living with persistent pain is a part of everyday life. Although there is usually no cure, people who receive the appropriate treatment, information and support can manage their condition effectively.

We provide a quarterly magazine, Pain Matters, and that people can email subs@painconcern.org.uk, for a free trial subscription for a year.


Current opportunities

This is a great opportunity to develop your understanding about self-management of pain, and your communication skills, whilst doing something worthwhile. By joining us you will join a fast-growing and respected service which has extensive links with the UK pain community and pain management specialists. We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and empathetic volunteers to respond to incoming calls, weekly, on our dedicated telephone and email helpline. we require you to have a Landline phone, access to a PC or Laptop. You will be expected to: Participate in on-line training: 8 weekly lessons (allocated 3 hours per week) & 4 group tutorials with role play (1 hour each). After training you will be expected to: Work a weekly, 3-hour shift. Provide a listening-ear to helpline users. Participate in quality monitoring by logging calls received. Participate in on-going development training. Adhere to helpline policies and procedures. Opportunities also exist to respond to helpline emails. Minimum commitment of 6 months on helpline after training.

Updating and maintaining the website, Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities, Manage presence in social networking including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc, Manage email bulletins and information mail-outs, Monitor the impact of social media programs and analyse, review and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize the charity’s reach, Maintain press relations, and contact contributors, Database management.

Promoting the organisation and its resources to people living with pain, their families and carers and to health professionals, Provide information about Pain Concern’s resources to support people living with pain, Represent Pain Concern to the wider public and health professionals, Attend events and set up and take down material for each event, Record feedback.

The tasks of this role include: • Welcoming new members to the community • Overseeing posts to the forum • Ensure that posts conform to the community guidelines • Share cases with your supervisor and team members • Help to gather information and feedback for statistics and report purpose
