St John Scotland

Charity registered in Scotland SC047485

St John Scotland is the charity working to create a caring Scotland where more of us will survive a health crisis to live longer, and better. Our services are delivered by dedicated teams of volunteers, working in the heart of communities across the country. Whether providing CPR training, increasing public access to defibrillators, being Community First Responders or transporting patients to hospitals, St John Scotland is there when it matters most. We believe when we work together, we can save lives.

Current opportunities

As a St John Scotland Patient Transport driver you are the friendly face patients see when they’re picked up at home on their way to treatment, or from the hospital once it’s complete. You’re the person who makes life easier, who they can rely on… and have a blether with! It will be your role to transport renal patients to and from the Renal Unit at Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH) in Larbert. This service is completely free to patients. Drivers will need access to their own car and all vehicles and drivers require full insurance. St John Scotland works in partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service and local NHS Trusts to provide patient transport for people attending oncology and renal clinics. All passengers are referred to us by the Scottish Ambulance Service or NHS clinics. Our Patient Transport services are a lifeline for people who rely on us to get to hospital for life-saving treatments.

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who can conduct some research for a standalone project with a focus on Volunteer Engagement and Support. Volunteers are the heart of St John Scotland. Our recent strategic review has identified the need for us to better support and recognise our current volunteers, as well as attract and retain new volunteers to help us deliver our services.

You will get the opportunity to attend various events within your local area with other St John Scotland CPR Champions and CPR Leads ensuring that participants are equipped to undertake potentially lifesaving bystander CPR according to current policies, regulations and protocol. You will also be trained on demonstrating defibrillator usage to participants.

St John Scotland (Fife) are looking for volunteer drivers aged between 25-70 to support our patient transport service.
