Heritage, built and living in Forres

Current opportunity

Become part of two of Forres' most historic buildings by volunteering. The Forres Heritage Trust needs volunteers to help meet and greet visitors at both the Tolbooth in Forres High Street and Nelson's Tower on Cluny Hill. The Forres Heritage Trust celebrates and helps preserve the great buildings, including the Tolbooth and Nelson’s Tower, histories, stories and traditions that embody this area’s unique cultural heritage, both now and for future generations. The Trust has created new tours at the Tolbooth which unlocks the history of the building’s old police office and cells, highlighting the newly renovated courtroom as well as the parapet around the clock tower – which has never been open to the public before. Volunteers are needed as tour guides, to help by providing a warm welcome and to help visitors understand the history and context of both these remarkable buildings and their conservation. Could you help to inspire and engage our visitors with helping to tell the story and fascinating history of both of the Tolbooth and Nelson’s Tower? Find out more ***Volunteer Drop in*** March 15 2023 *** Meet other volunteers and find out how to get involved. If you want more information but cannot make this date, there will be another drop in on March 18 and a third one on May 8. Training and support will be given to all volunteers, giving you materials and information for your own learning. Frequency of tours and times are initially dependent on volunteers' availabilities.
