Big Noise Torry

Sistema Scotland is a charity set out to transform lives with music. Big Noise is an orchestra programme that aims to use music making to foster confidence, teamwork, pride and aspiration in the children taking part – and across their wider community. It is based on the methods of Venezuela’s “El Sistema” movement and is run by the charity Sistema Scotland. Big Noise Torry works with children to help them transform their lives through music. We run after-school and holiday clubs for children in Torry. The magic happens at our Big Noise centres.

Current opportunities

Big Noise Torry works with children to help them transform their lives through music. We run afterschool clubs (term-time 2:30pm – 5pm) and holiday clubs (9am-1pm) for children in Torry centered around learning music. It’s really rewarding work where you will see children from the age of 6 learn to play instruments and grow into proud young people with a sense of accomplishment. The children come to Big Noise and learn to play their instruments, sing, work as part of a team, work alone, develop social skills and have lots of fun. As a volunteer you will be part of a warm, fun and dynamic team who mentor the children along their path. You will become a positive role model in the lives and become someone they look forward to seeing. We are looking for volunteers to support us in our afterschool and holiday clubs. Our volunteers help with everything from collecting children from school in our walking lines, helping with snack, helping with set-up and pack up, being a role model and helping them to play their instrument. No musical experience is required – as long as you are happy to learn and have fun. For more details please contact Kirsty Jackson, E Mail: kirsty.jackson@sistemascotland.org.uk / Tel: 01224 974707

We believe every child and young person deserves the same opportunity to succeed and so we provide free, immersive, instrumental music tuition to pupils and pre-school children. This leads to an enhanced ability to learn in school, improvements in emotional wellbeing, confidence and esteem, as well as the acquisition of a range of social and life skills. To achieve this, volunteers are vital for our Big Noise Centre in Torry. You can become a positive role model in their lives and someone they look forward to spending time with. Our volunteers help with everything including getting snacks ready, set-up and pack up, and helping the children and young people to play their instruments. We particularly need volunteers to collect children from school in our walking lines. You will benefit from this by receiving training, developing skills in communication and gaining experience of working with children and young people. A fantastic opportunity to help with a major charity in Aberdeen. All volunteer help is greatly appreciated. For more details please contact Kirsty Jackson at E Mail: kirsty.jackson@sistemascotland.org.uk or Tel: 01224 974707.
