FAMS (Family and Friends Against Murder and Suicide)

Two mothers established FFAMS. One had lost her son through murder and the other through suicide. The aim of the charity is to deliver a wide range of services, to people affected by the traumatic grief, devastation and isolation associated with murder & suicide. Initially we will provide a helpline - telephone service, peer support, befrienders and group meetings subject to funding.

Current opportunity

The FAMS.chat Listening Ear Service Volunteer Operators will support callers through the FAMS.chat phone lines. It is expected that this support primarily consists of being an empathetic Listening Ear for people in distress. Duties and Responsibilities include: providing report documentation for all calls received, following all FAMS policies and procedures, attending monthly meetings to stay current with FAMS communications, commitment to six hours per week as a minimum, following strict GDPR regulations Benefits of Volunteering Your time with FAMS are personal satisfaction, contribution to the community – giving back, improving active listening and communication skills, opportunity to work with persons of diverse backgrounds and lifestyles, training & development opportunities and school credit and/or letters of recommendation.
