Current opportunity

Are you passionate about recycling? Green transport? Making things more accessible? Do you want to get out and about in your local community whilst giving a helping hand? The Tamfourhill Tenants and Residents Organisation are looking for volunteers to help with a new Project which aims to support people who don’t have access to the recycling centre due to lack of access to a car or other accessibility barriers. In order to enable people to get rid of rubbish and recycling, our team of volunteers will visit houses which have booked a collection, pick up waste, transport it onto e-cargo bikes and then load up a van which will be driven to the recycling centre. This will not only keep the area cleaner in terms of waste, it will also reduce emissions by limiting car trips to the recycling centre and promote cargo bikes as a travel option. This will ensure Camelon and Tamfourhill is a cleaner community for everyone and tackle social isolation. Volunteers are needed in x2 roles: 1. Collection Volunteers are needed to travel around residential areas on foot/bike to collect bagged and unwanted rubbish from residents who have pre-booked a collection. They will also support our e-cargo bikers to load up cargo for the recycling centre or to be taken to a van. 2. E-Cargo Bikers are needed to collect bagged and unwanted rubbish from residents who have pre-booked a collection using a e-cargo bike before cycling the cargo to a nearby van for offloading. Note: If you are interested in becoming an E-Cargo Bike volunteer, Forth Environment Link will be providing training so you can cycle with confidence (even if you have never ridden an e-bike before!). The project will initially run for 4 x 2 week blocks (8 weeks in total) in September and November 2023 and then January and March 2024, so, we are looking for people who can volunteer for a minimum of 4 days (weekdays or weekend days - days meaning 4/5 hours onsite) during the 8 month project. Volunteers will be safety briefed by Tamfourhill Tenants and Residents Organisation and PPE will be provided. All volunteers will also be well supported throughout and there will be a ‘on call’ volunteer available to help, advise and solve any issues. All walking and cycling during collections will be on residential streets. If you are interested in this role please contact Babs McCool, Project Support Volunteer via email: babs.mccool6889@gmail.com or phone: 07746 073782
