Methilhill Community Children's Initiative is a community led group dedicated to providing local children and young people with opportunities to play, learn and grow. Based within the Methilhill Community Learning Garden, they operate a 6 day programme of activities including garden based activities, local youth clubs and outreach sessions to schools and organisations. They have been running for 10 years, and were founded by local parents and community members who wanted to provide local children with community based experiences. Community spirit together with meaningful learning is at the heart of everything they do. MCCI are looking for volunteers to help within their small community cafe. The cafe is open term-time on Mondays and Fridays 12-2pm, serving soup, sandwiches, stovies and hot drinks. No cash handling involved. You would help prepare and serve food, spend time with the people visiting the cafe and clean up afterwards. This could help build your confidence, meet new people, do something you enjoy, on one or both days.

Volunteering opportunities exist within pre-school groups Nature Tots – Monday & Friday 9-11.30am, Nature Nursery – Tuesday &Thursday 8.45-11.45am & 11.45-2.45pm You can come along to some/all of the time and one or all of these groups to gain skills and experience of working with under 5s. They also have groups for Primary 1-7 young people, see separate details of their Outdoor Adventurers and Youth club. MCCI offer a friendly atmosphere and supportive team. All groups are based outdoors. References will be requested for this role. This opportunity requires a PVG prior to commencement – It is illegal to apply for this post if you have been barred for working with children.

MCCI are looking for keen, enthusiastic individuals who would like to volunteer within Methilhill Learning Garden, carrying out a variety of tasks. If you enjoy being outdoors and have one or two spare hours a week they would love to hear from you. There will be a variety of tasks including some general DIY. They need help maintaining the garden - trees, flowers, herbs and bushes - they have planted. Families or friends are welcome to volunteer as a group. Gardening knowledge would be an advantage but it’s not essential, if you’re enthusiastic and willing to muck in. Here is a list of the types of things you might be asked to do in the garden: weeding, planting, trimming, pruning, maintaining paths, cutting grass, tidying up.

MCCI are looking for keen, enthusiastic individuals who would like to volunteer in their office or from home to improve their Social Media and marketing. Volunteers would monitor and update all their social media channels, as well as design marketing materials to help promote their groups, services and events. Initial meetings in their premises/online, ongoing volunteering could be from your home.
