Leuchie House

Charity registered in Scotland SC042249

To be the UK's best provider of high quality respite for individuals with high dependency physical conditions. We will continually support guests and their carers to enhance the quality of their life. At Leuchie House, our philosophy is that everyone deserves a decent break, whatever their individual care requirements.

There is a country house feel at Leuchie, rather than a clinical atmosphere, with the emphasis on social as well as health care. We do everything we can to ensure guests' preferences are taken into account, as you would expect on any break, and offer physiotherapy and a variety of activities and entertainment throughout your stay

As an outings assistant you will assist along with members of the care team on trips, being more of a friend to the guest and giving them that 1-1 interaction that they may not have at home. You would need to assist when appropriate with drinking and eating whilst on an outing as part of this role. You will have the opportunity to assist on many various trips. Through this opportunity you'll have the chance to meet and work with new people, access training and have the support of a member of the operations team. Your volunteering will be improving the lives of people and their families living with long term conditions as well as being part of a fun, enthusiastic and supportive team. If you think you would be able to help us in any way possible then get in touch.

Volunteering with Leuchie at Home is a very rewarding opportunity and a great way to gain more skills and experience when enhancing a persons life. Leuchie at Home officially started in July 2022 in partnership with East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership who refer potential clients to the service. We offer the service to those who have a long-term neurological conditions or stroke. Each person is given at least 2 hours each week and this allows their partner/carer time to themselves. They use this time in a variety of ways from shopping, meeting a friend for coffee or catching up with gardening. The volunteer will sit with the person and keep them company while their partner/carer has time to do the the things they need to do. During the visits the client may like to chat about their week, the past or any worries that they may have. Play board games, crosswords, quizzes, watch TV or any other activities such as crafts or help with technology (iPad, PC, Phone, Smart speakers). As well as building a relationship with the client you will also get to know their partner/carer during the visits. The volunteer will not be expected to provide personal care.

As one of our Drivers you will drive to and from pre decided outing destinations ensuring a meeting place and time is decided upon with other staff for returning home, ensure the vehicle is kept clean and tidy at all times, helping assist the staff members with accompanying guests on to the vehicle and ensuring they are secure and help to carry out safety checks on the vehicle. There will be the chance to assist on various trips as well if you wish and provide feedback any issues i.e suitability of venue or/and vehicle. Through this opportunity you'll have the chance to meet and work with new people, access training and have the support of a member of the operations team. Your volunteering will be improving the lives of people and their families living with long term conditions as well as being part of a fun, enthusiastic and supportive team.

Fundraising Volunteers help Leuchie House raise our profile and funds to help families affected by long term conditions as respite fees only cover around 60% of the cost of running Leuchie House. Being a fundraising volunteer can be fun and varied. It involves giving up an hour or two of your time when you can spare it to raise our local profile and rally your community around fundraising. Full training and support is provided and your role will focus on activities you enjoy. Some ways you could help include: - being the face of Leuchie in your community by handing out leaflets or placing collecting tins - becoming a Leuchie Speaker to spread the word about Leuchie by giving talks to community organisations, businesses and schools - become a treasure hunter and help source prizes for our raffles, auctions and events
