The Prince’s Trust - Scotland

We are a UK charity which aims to work with the most excluded young people aged 13 - 30, engaging them in personal development opportunities, which should lead them to taking responsibility for their lives. We ensure best quality outcomes for the young people we help and create an environment where staff and volunteers perform at their best.

Current opportunities

The Prince's Trust helps change young lives. The Explore Enterprise Programme offers unemployed 18 to 30-year-olds support to establish whether self employment is right for them. A young person may have decided to start a business but may be struggling in terms of practical help. The programme runs on set dates in Dundee throughout the year. The programme is delivered in workshop format, comprising of 4 sessions running for half a day each over a 3 day period. We require volunteers in Dundee with experience in one or more of these areas to deliver these sessions to our young people in a way which is clear and understandable. The expectation is for a volunteer to deliver 4 half day sessions per year. Training materials have already been created, therefore this is not a requirement of the role.

Business Mentors provide support to young people once the 4 day programme is completed. The role is about guidance and helping the young people to develop their business whilst also building their confidence and skills. It involves helping young people to find information, understand problems, identify solutions and implement action plans.

For The Prince's Trust mentoring is "The provision of personal support, assistance, encouragement and inspiration to young people during and following our programmes, particularly at a time of transition and typically over a sustained period of time." Progression Mentors provide mentoring support to young people when they finish a Trust programme for a three to six-month period. It is to help them move into employment, training, education or volunteering and also make the most of the opportunities whilst in employment. It is about guidance and helping young people to find and translate information, understand problems, identify solutions and implement action plans
