Oxgangs Neighbourhood Centre
Charity registered in Scotland
The aim of the Centre is to provide a social meeting place and, with the help of the other agencies, to promote within the centre, recreational activities, educational opportunities, advice and information for all members of the community in Firrhill and Oxgangs.
Oxgangs Neighbourhood Centre is a very friendly centre which provides a community space for various groups. This group runs twice weekly on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. We are looking for volunteers to run the group as well as help promote the group. The group provides a warm and friendly space for parents and their children to come together, to chat and socialise as well as share ideas and offer support to one another. The group also helps to reduce social isolation.
Our kitchen/café can be quite a busy place, so we need people with an interest in catering and serving the general public. We have a few experienced volunteers and anyone interested would be given training where required. We serve hot and cold filled rolls and home baking. An interest in home baking is an advantage, but not necessary. The successful candidates would be expected to help with baking, cooking bacon etc. and keeping the kitchen clean, as well as dealing with our customers.
We are going to be upgrading our garden and providing a seating area for the community to enjoy. Many of the residents don't have a garden so this will provide a calm area for them to sit in. DIY skills and an interest in gardening would be a benefit. We also need regular gardeners to cut the grass and weed the garden. Again, anyone with an interest in gardening would be a benefit.
Oxgangs Neighbourhood Centre is a community run Centre that relies on volunteers. We have a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in helping out with our new lunch club on Thursday afternoons to help those isolated in their homes to enjoy a home cooked meal, a weekly activity and the opportunity of meeting people and enjoying friendship. We require volunteers to assist in setting up and serving in our new lunch club which will begin in the Spring on Thursday afternoons
