Enable Scotland

Charity registered in Scotland SC016961

ENABLE Scotland is a national voluntary organisation run by its members who are people with learning disabilities, carers, family members and volunteers. ENABLE Scotland believes that people with learning disabilities should be valued as full and active members of the community.

Our branches are mainly run by volunteer members. A branch committee is elected each year from the local members and organises the local activities of the branch. Most of our branches serve a local area but some are for people with a special interest eg for self advocates or for families from ethnic communities.

Current opportunities

At our clubs on Wednesday and Saturday evenings we run a coffee bar selling tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks to our members, who have learning difficulties. The work involves serving customers, making tea and coffee, adding up how much is due and giving change where necessary. The Wednesday Club runs from 7pm to 9pm and the Saturday Disco runs from 7pm to 9:30pm. Coffee bar helpers are asked to arrive by 6:30pm to help with setting up the coffee bar,

This role is to assist with the governance of the Branch; in particular by attending the monthly meetings of the Management Committee and by taking responsibility for agreed tasks suited to their abilities. Also to be one of the key-holders responsible for opening and locking the building before and after club meetings. To help with our three clubs (which include a disco, indoor games, arts and crafts, Scottish country dancing).
