Age Scotland

Charity registered in Scotland SC010100

We work to improve the later lives of everyone on the ageing journey. We celebrate ageing and challenge ageist prejudice throughout society. Our mission is to make Scotland a better place for older people. From a dedicated helpline for older people, to support and funds for older people's groups, to campaigns on the issues that older people tell us matter to them, we're working on many fronts to make Scotland a better place for older people.

Current opportunities

We are looking for a volunteer to support our Comradeship Circles service, which offers older members of the ex-service community the opportunity to enjoy regular group camaraderie by telephone. You will join the Veterans Friendship Circles Facilitator on group phone calls, which last up to an hour, helping to facilitate discussion, developing resources to enrich Circles in response to members' interests, and providing pre and post call administrative support. Currently this role is home based, with access to a phone required.

The friendship service is part of the wider Age Scotland Helpline. The purpose of a Friendship Caller is to provide calls of companionship to people who are 50 and over, who may live alone or feel alone and would benefit from a chat. Having a conversation can have such a positive impact, we can talk about many things that aren’t Coronavirus related, for example current interests, hobbies, previous work life – the list is endless!

Our collection can volunteers raise vital funds to support our work to tackle loneliness. Acting as the friendly face of Age Scotland, volunteers place collection cans around communities and collect cans once they’re full. We are looking for someone with good organisational and numeracy skills, that enjoys meeting new people and is passionate about ending loneliness in Scotland.
