Prestonfield and District Neighbourhood Workers Project

Aim to provide advice, information, social and therapeutic care to older and disabled people in an area of south Edinburgh.In particular, Prestonfield and the surrounding district.


Current opportunities

Lunch Club with social activities on the Monday Wednesday and Friday of each week for up to 90 older people. Responsibilities - to assist in the care and support of older people some who may have a diagnosis of dementia. To assist with setting up and serving at the lunch club and assisting in the running of various activities within the Centre. Education & training in manual handling, dementia awareness and passenger assisting can be offered.

We are seeking indivduals with an interest in the care of older people and experience of the operation of Day services in a community setting. Someone with a background in social care, nursing, community work or the operation of a social care business could be the ideal person for this role. Other valuable skills would include business management, social and therapeutic care, personnel or legal background.

Specific Duties - along with Project staff collecting transport lists from office and then going with vehicle and driver to collect clients from their home, physically assist them onto the vehicle and ensure they are properly seated and securely fastened in. Clients are then brought to the Neighbourhood Centre, assisted in alighting from the vehicle into the Centre and seated for the daycare, lunch and social activities The volunteer will assist the social care workers in the general operations.
