About the Role • Following guidance from senior management to support the set up and running of the event • Signposting to correct areas of the event to complete activities on offer • Engaging with participants throughout the event • Working alongside sport coaches and members of staff to make sure the event runs smoothly • Ensuring Health & Safety of participants during event Locations, Days & Times May vary depending on programme need – will be discussed with volunteer prior to starting. Location may be across North Lanarkshire Sports Development Venues and timings vary depending on class involvement. What’s involved? North Lanarkshire Council Sports Development Department offer a wide ride of sporting events throughout the calendar year. What will you get out of it? • Experience at one of North Lanarkshire’s biggest sporting events ran for the community. • Experience working within a sporting environment. • The ability to enhance the lives of participants through engagement and fun activities. • Ability to be involved in future projects/events if applicable.

Outline of role (BSL Volunteer) Provide BSL translation at Bookbug sessions where needed. Currently looking for support for a child attending sessions in Airdrie Library. Provide BSL translation at author events, talks and activities such as New Tricks. This would suit someone looking for a front facing community role with a strong social focus. The volunteer would • Ensure our library services are more inclusive and accessible to the deaf community. • Attend Bookbug sessions in advance to prep with the Bookbug session leader. • promote other library events and groups to interested users • Support library service in delivering a more inclusive offer to the public by providing BSL at events and activities where possible • Attend weekly Bookbug sessions to support profoundly deaf children accessing and enjoying the sessions to the fullest • be a Library Champion within the local community. Adult Learning Volunteer Do something amazing and volunteer with North Lanarkshire Council. By choosing to join us as an Adult Learning Volunteer, you will be directly improving and enriching the lives of people in your local community. With the right help and support everyone can enjoy a healthier and happier life. About the Role Volunteers are valued members of the Adult Learning team and are vital to supporting the growth of adult literacies in North Lanarkshire. From working with learners one to one or help organising community events, the volunteering role is designed to balance between the needs of the learners and the volunteers’ personal development. We currently have many volunteers who take on a variety of roles for us. Our volunteer roles match your skills, interests and personal development goals. What’s involved? The volunteers in adult literacies class/group would mainly be help learners develop essential life or work skills, e.g. the volunteers can be working with learners on a one-to-one basis within a class setting. Volunteers can also be joining the learners’ forum to have their say in shaping their own learning. What will you get out of it? The Adult Learning team provide high quality training and ongoing support to all our volunteers. We celebrate volunteers’ achievement and hard work during volunteers’ week every year. Most importantly, it is a good way to help others with their learning and integration in society. Qualities and skills required for the role: No formal qualification required. We welcome individuals who have good interpersonal skills, willingness to help others and regular commitment to the volunteering role. What’s the commitment? Flexible depending on individual’s availability. It would be 2 hours a week or 10 hours a week. We appreciate any time you can commit.
