We support and empower lone parent, vulnerable and disadvantaged families through early intervention and partnership working.
We facilitate positive change by being accessible, inclusive and flexible in our approach.
Do you have a few hours to spare each week? Would you like to be involved in supporting parents in your local area?
Fife Gingerbread has been providing support in Fife for 30 years helping thousands of lone parent, vulnerable and disadvantaged families. Without the help and support of our volunteers, this would not be possible. As well as offering one-to-one support through our Support Workers, Fife Gingerbread also provide support to parents within various group settings which enhance confidence, skills and self-esteem whether it be from cooking groups, to walking groups and lots of things in between.
Fife Gingerbread are looking for a person who is caring and compassionate who would like to help their service users with transport to and from events/activities/training. A full driving licence is required and volunteers should be able to take out business insurance on their private vehicle (which may have no or minimal cost) so they are insured to carry our lone parents
An element of flexibility is needed as hours vary depending on activities and location (Locations cover most of Fife except NE Fife).
Volunteers would be subject to a PVG Disclosure check.
Volunteers should be an experienced driver, as well as reliable and punctual.
A mature, friendly and cheerful disposition would enhance this volunteering opportunity as well as good communication skills.
Full induction and training would be given. Volunteers would also have access to NHS Improvement Training Programme of courses.
Update *During Covid-19 Pandemic all support will be provided virtually and/or telephone*
The Buddy volunteer provides support for a parent, usually spending a couple of hours, once a week with them. The Buddy will support the parent to help them in the way they need most. This may be with practical and emotional support to allow them to escape from the house for a coffee or a walk, support to attend groups or exercise classes, getting to appointments or helping get organised. Just as important is a non-judgemental listening ear. By sharing your time and friendship in this way, our volunteers offer the parent the opportunity to build their confidence, develop new skills and enjoy family life. This early intervention model reduces social isolation, having a positive impact on the family as a whole.
