Save the Children (Western Isles)

Charity registered in Scotland SC039570

The charity aims to provide children with a safe environment, health, education, protection in war. We are the largest international children's agency, but work in the UK as well as overseas. We campaign to protect children against dangerous and exploitative work and during emergencies provide relief on a continuing basis. We are independent, non-political and non-denominational, putting children at the heart of everything we do.

Current opportunities

Save the Children have over 130 shops with a turnover in excess of £6 million p.a. The shops make a significant contribution to the money Save the Children needs to carry out its work for children. Shops are also ambassadors for Save the Children, and ensure that our name and work is known throughout the UK. We need to maintain, strengthen and develop the shop business in order to increase income and heighten public awareness of our work for the benefit of children overseas and here in the UK. All Save the Children shops are locally managed and run by volunteers. There is a small regional team of staff with retail backgrounds who are employed to manage a group of shops.

Save the Children has had a branch in Lewis since 1965 and a shop since 1984. At present we have approximately 50 volunteers who support the shop and branch. We have a happy working atmosphere in the shop. Volunteers serve the public, sort out clothing, iron and help at outside fundraising events eg coffee mornings, soup lunches etc. If you have people skills and a sense of humour, this is the job for you.
