Food Train (Newton Stewart)

Charity registered in Scotland SC024843

Food Train provides a range of services, delivered by volunteers, to older people in Scotland including grocery shopping home deliveries, household support services and befriending services.

Current opportunities

Food Train provide a low cost home delivery service of grocery shopping to elderly people who aren't able to get out and shop for themselves. Volunteer days are Mondays/Tuesdays/Wednesdays. If you can spare even one day per month you could shop or drive or help on the van around the Machars area, shopping at Sainsbury or collecting lists or delivering groceries to provide essential supplies and some social contact for elderly people in our area. Shopping orders are collected on one day then volunteers shop and deliver the next day. Knowledge of the local area helpful but not essential, street maps and full vehicle insurance provided. Out of pocket expenses paid..

We are looking for friendly, outgoing and organised volunteers. This opportunity would suit people who enjoy talking to others, are able to listen and have a couple of hours free each week/fortnight that they could spend talking to an older person.

An initial induction will be offered to inform the volunteer of our company policies and procedures. Initial training on the jobs we do will be given and ongoing relevant training is always offered. I will always available for support.

If you can spare one day per week or fortnight then you could drive The Food Train van around the area collecting shopping lists or making grocery deliveries to our customers, providing vital social contact for isolated people. You would have another volunteer helper with you to help deliver the groceries and manage the payments. Shopping orders are collected on one day and taken to the shops, where the orders are prepared ready to be delivered the next day. Knowledge of the local area helpful but not essential, street maps and full vehicle insurance provided.
