The hospital provides a range of services to meet the health needs of the general population. We are constantly seeking ways to improve parient care and acurrent initiative is to ensure that people with cognitive difficulties (including people with dementia) are given access to appropriate support during a hospital admission.
Volunteers will help in the Care for the Elderly Ward in Raigmore Hospital. The volunteer’s main duty will be to provide company and companionship to vulnerable elderly patients.
Volunteers can chat, listen, read, play board games, reminisce, play music, and walk with patients.
In doing so, the volunteer will be enhancing the care experience provided whilst helping to reduce isolation and loneliness experienced by many patients who remain in Hospital for prolonged periods of time.
We are looking for friendly individuals who like company and to chat, who are willing to spend some time with patients in a hospital setting.
Many patients can spend up to a month in hospital away from home comforts, family and friends and this can be very lonely. Not only does this have an impact on mental health but also physical health, prolonging hospital stay further.
By giving your time to chat, reminisce, play a game of dominos or do a puzzle with patients, you will be supporting our hard working NHS staff to ensure quality, person centred care is given to our patients every time.
Please contact our team to find out more on this extremely fulfilling and vital role.
