Current opportunities

This is an opportunity to make a genuine, positive impact on somebody's life by volunteering as a befriender. The role involves providing 1-1 befriending to someone in the East Lothian community who is experiencing loneliness, isolation and/or challenges with their mental health. By helping people discover - or rediscover - past hobbies and interests and build their social confidence, you will help reconnect them to their local community.

Are you familiar with local green spaces across East Lothian? Would you like to lead small groups of people on gentle walks or 'ponder wanders' in the local area, encouraging them to take in their surroundings with more awareness? These walks are held weekly on a Tuesday afternoon for around an hour in local parks and open spaces across East Lothian. Leading these groups you will be helping people improve their mental health by connecting to each other and the environment. The commitment can be flexible (no need to lead a walk every week) and training will be provided.

Do you enjoy walking? Are you able to gently motivate others? As a volunteer buddy walker you can share your love of walking as you help others become more active. Working one-to-one with people in East Lothian, you can enjoy going for a walk and creating new connections as you help someone rebuild their confidence to create a regular walking routine
