Law and District Amateur Athletic Club

Charity registered in Scotland SC046168

To offer training and competitive opportunties in track and field, cross-country and road running to members from age 9 years upwards.

Current opportunity

Law & District AAC have 3 training bases across Lanarkshire, at Biggar, Carluke and Wishaw. We offer quality coaching in all areas of running, jumping and throwing to club members from the age of 9 years upwards. We have a membership of around 270 athletes, 40 of whom reside in the Biggar area. Our Biggar base was set up 13 years ago and has proved very popular and successful. We are the only athletic club in the Clydesdale area and the weekly training session in Biggar provides an introduction to athletics for youngsters in this rural area. We are urgently looking for UKA qualified coaches to Level 1 (Coaching Assistant) or Level 2 (Athletic Coach) standard to support and mentor new volunteers to coaching within our club in the Biggar area. Opportunity mainly takes place in Biggar but we also welcome volunteers to our bases in Carluke & Wishaw. We are also looking for volunteers to assist existing club coaches during training sessions, helping with the organisation of the session / athletes / equipment and in due course the club will be happy to pay for committed volunteers to attend a UKA Coaching Assistant course to obtain their coaching licence. Anyone who wishes to progress further can then take the opportunity to advance to the next level, Athletic Coach. Both the Coaching Assistant and Athletic Coach will coach Athletes in Biggar between the ages of 9-15yrs in the basics of running, jumping and throwing. We encourage our members to compete in events held by Scottish Athletics, whether it be track & field, cross country, hill running or road racing and these events can take them and coaches to many places locally and nationally, providing experiences and memories which last a life time.
