To enhance the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of Rosewell through the creation of opportunities for the local community. This includes to provide or assist in providing recreational facilities and/or organising recreational activities which will be available to members of the community and public at large with the object of improving the conditions of life for the community.


Current opportunities

Help us keep Rosewell looking beautiful by helping to maintain our community planters and green spaces. Opportunities also available in our sensory garden at The Steading. Supported by our Community Activities Assistant you will work with a team of volunteers headed up by a lead volunteer. You will be involved in planning and taking part in activities dependant on the season. This will include weeding, planting, pruning, watering, feeding and general maintenance in the various areas around the village and in The Steading including our Sensory Garden and vegetable patch.

You will help on our welcome desk and will be the first point of contact for people entering the Steading. Give information about the centre, direct people to the right place and answer telephone calls. Within our popular community building you will be greeting people who are attending classes or coming to the café. You will take booking for our Soft Play & Sensory rooms, answer any enquires either face to face or over the phone and generally make people feel welcome. During this time, you will also help take Track and Trace details of people entering the building.

You will support activities at our Chatter and Clatter Group for children under 5 and their families. Tasks include preparation, set up of activities, engaging with parents and children and clearing away after the group. As a Volunteer you will support a Community Activities Leader to plan and deliver a wide variety of activities in the group which could include playing games, painting, craft making and storytelling. You will be helping the children learn new skills in an enjoyable, safe environment. You will have the opportunity to bring new ideas and could take the lead on sessions once you feel confident. All we ask is that you are committed, enthusiastic and enjoy working with babies and young children. Great for the experienced or those looking to gain experience. You will support activities at our fun and exciting After School Groups working with children aged 5-11. Tasks include preparation, set up and delivery. Our inspiring programme covers Arts, Crafts, Lego club and Community activities. As a Volunteer you will support a Community Activities Leader to plan and deliver a wide variety of activities helping the children learn new skills, increase confidence, and have a greater awareness of the world around them. You will have the opportunity to bring new ideas and could take the lead on sessions once you feel confident. All we ask is that you are committed and enthusiastic ready to support the children and provide a fun atmosphere where children can take part in activities safely.
