To help people and their families living with a terminal illness make the most of the time they have together by delivering expert care, emotional support, research and guidance.

Current opportunities

We know that little things can make a big difference for people and their families living with a terminal illness – like having someone to chat to over a cup of tea. You will be matched with someone who you’ll visit in their home, go out somewhere with or chat to over the phone. You can offer your time any day of the week, between 9am and 9pm, so that you can find a time that works for you and the individual that you are supporting. The type of support our Helper volunteers give often includes: • Companionship and emotional support • Practical help • A break for families and carers • Information on other support available •Support after a bereavement. Volunteers need to be aged 18 years or over, live in Lothian and commit at least three hours each week for a minimum of one year. Due to Covid-19 training is still taking place on-line. Face to face visits are taking place with covid measures in place.

Every day of your life matters – from the first to the last. That's why the right care at the end of your life is so important. With other group members from your local area, you will organise fundraising events, collections and bring your community together in supporting Marie Curie. The group meets approximately every 6 weeks to organise 2-4 events per year. Due to Covid-19 at present all volunteer fundraising is being carried out virtually.
